Re: New FAA Ruling Re. Drones

It's going to be really hard to enforce, but plane safety needs to be number one.

Re: New FAA Ruling Re. Drones

Once again there are some that ruin things for many. Drones come in all price ranges, so are not "expensive toys", like someone mentioned in their post.

I bought 1 a few months ago and it cost me less than $60, and it came with a built-in video camera and a 4g micro/SD Card. Took me days and lots of battery charging before I felt like I could keep it where I wanted it in our yard.

This fairly cheap "electronic toy" is fun to fly, indoors or outdoors. My cats are fun to watch as they can't quite figure it out just yet. They say mine will go as high as 400', but I have trouble seeing it at 30'.

Just like something else I own, being a responsible drone owner is the key. It is not the inanimate object that creates the problem. That would fall on the human operating the device.

What are "they" going to do with the $5 charge?

They're really no different than the remote control cars of the 80's.   Boys and their toys. Smiley Happy   I ordered one for my husband.   He'll have to practice inside as there's a foot of snow outside.

As with everything that has potential to be dangerous common sense isn't required.

@handygal2I also have no idea how they can monitor these things, but it's also sad that those who have enough money to buy such an expensive toy can't buy enough common sense and concern for the rest of us to stay away from airports and other major facilities without having government involved.

People who want small government need to learn to govern themselves.  I think even a $1000 fine for playing with one of these near an airport isn't enough.

I wish I thought all the violaters were young kids whose brains aren't fully developed, but I suspect plenty of them were purchased by people who should have fully developed brains, but who just don't think they need to care about the rest of us -  and I bet these are not refugees for the most part, but they are dangerous just the same.  What happens when  plane with hundreds of passengers goes down because of these idiots?

So you think that only people who want small gov't buy these? What a stereotypical statement from you. And if a refugee had a drone (which if they were a true refugee would make no sense. But again you are stereotyping to fit your agenda and narrative) then I am sure our crack Gov't would overlook it or not bother questioning them. So don't worry.

And if it's anything like those who use guns they obtained illegally to commit crimes, these folks who use drones,  carrying bombs perhaps, won't register them and pay the "5 dollars" either.

Re: New FAA Ruling Re. Drones

I bought one from QVC for my grandson for Christmas. I did not think anything about him being irresponsible. I thought it would be a fun toy to keep him busy and active. You can use any device to hurt someone if you want. It is the person not the device. We have some people in our society that are out to hurt as many people as they can without feeling the consequences. I hope this does not ruin Christmas for the children.

I think we are majorly overreacting.  If they want to enforce the $5 registration then the stores will do it when you buy them and tack it on same as they do when they collect sales tax and remit it back to the government.

It's my guess it is a step towards possibly reigning in or hopefully deterring the rogue fliers who ruin it for everyone else.

That is ridiculous. My company uses these for inspections on sites that are either too dangerous or physically impossible to inspect. These should not be used by civilians. But outlaw really?
