Re: New FAA Ruling Re. Drones

A teacher crashed a drone at the US Open Tennis match this year.

The drone crashed toward the end of a second round match between 26th-ranked Flavia Pennetta and Monica Niculescu. Daniel Verley, a 26-year-old teacher from Brooklyn.  This person was flying it in a illegal area scaring the public and the players who thought it may contain a bomb.  Since the Genie is already out of the bottle with millions already out in the public, how is anyone going to get them to pay or license them?   Perhaps this is just a new government job  which will do nothing to keep anyone safe.

I dont get the need for citizens to have these drones. If people want to fly something for a hobby, go join an airplane club that flies model airplanes!

Re: New FAA Ruling Re. Drones

I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING........Is there any mention of rules regarding keeping drones away from fast-moving expressways/freeways/turnpikes/whatever?  Driving at 60 plus MPH and having a drone fly toward our car(s) could cause a quick/automatic response and, therefore, an accident.

Re: New FAA Ruling Re. Drones

Drones certainly have their place - surveying land for real estate, DNR, checking out landslides, floods, that kind of thing.  What I don't want to happen is some neighbor (kid or adult) flying around my property looking at my yard or trying to look in my windows.  I could see wanting one though if you're out hiking or something and want to check out what's over the next hill.  As long as you aren't encroaching on someone's personal property.  Don't mess with my space!

@Shorty2U,

I can only speak for myself.  I do not have the "need" to fly my drone, I enjoy flying it. Why do people drive over the posted speed limits? They could do like I did for over 2 decades. You like going fast? Do it on a Race Track, I did!

Most all my physical fitness activities were the type where you were not dependent on another person to do them. Running/Skating/Lifting Weights.

Why would I want/need other people to enjoy this hobby when I can step out the door and do so on our own expansive property? Any we live less than a mile from a small airport. Me flying my drone 20-30' in the air, we have 80' trees surrounding.

There are a lot of things I asj myself "why do they do xyz". As long as it doesn't effect our lives here? That I see as their choice, not mine.

Re: New FAA Ruling Re. Drones

For just the average person, I think owners should be allowed to use in their own property only. Not flying all over the neighborhood. If used for business with permission, that would be different
