Re: New Beatles Song Released

I've been a fan since 1963.  Saw them together live twice. I've seen Paul several times, George, once, and Ringo a few times. John with the Plastic Ono Band.  The song is ok, at best. It's no "Imagine".  But what is?

I agree, it will grow on us-made me think of Paul missing Linda-they were married almost 30 years and I remember him calling her "his girlfriend" on Oprah HeartHeart

I think it was a totally unnecessary endeavor.

I would have DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN if I could have ever see "The Beatles" in person!

@haddon9

While it is a wonderful memory for me, I must admit to barely "seeing" them since they were out in the middle of a huge statium...and it was raining that night.  Everyone drenched and miserable.  A few had binoculars (not me).

The audience was screaming so loud, you could only hear bits and pieces of music.  No big TVs in 1966 and inadequate sound systems.  Like a weak, static-filled radio.

However, for a girl of 15 and thousands of other young girls, we were happy to just breathe their air for a little while.

My sis and I Iaugh now and say it could have been anyone out there and we would never have known.  However, as I mentioned I did "see" them as they left the stadium and can confirm it was the real thing.

I never saw any of them in person again.

I like the song.  I miss The Beatle sound,

so this brings one more to enjoy!

Now and then I miss many people who have passed on in my life.  And this song says what I feel.

I  don't like the song, and I really don't like the official video.  I read Paul saying John would have wanted them to do this, but I disagree. It was from a demo and clearly nowhere near the caliber of outstanding Beatles songs. They should have let John R.I.P. with our memories of his fantastic songs i.e. In My Life, Imagine, etc. I don't want the Beatles final song to be a mediocre, just OK one. Truth be told, I don't think it sounded much like John, and not a whole lot like the Beatles either.

And I really don't like the video, which  I think IS creepy. Today's Paul singing with Sgt Pepper's Paul and two dead Beatles gives me the Heebie Jeebies. Although I admit I cried through the whole thing, thinking of watching The Beatles in the '60s. And the ending where they took a bow in their matching suits made me lose it altogether. 😭 Oh those were joy-filled days watching and listening to the Fab Four. But time -- decades -- have passed and we can't turn back time, as this effort tried to do.

For me the last Beatles song will always be the one Paul ended his concerts with the 3X I saw him in person. "And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make."  Well sung, and a fitting end of an era. Let deceased Beatles R.I.P.  There will never be another group like them, including Beatles resurrected by technology.

ETA: One more thing. Back in the 60s the Beatles gave a lot of really good Lennon-McCartney written  songs to other artists to record because Paul and John thought they weren't good enough to be Beatles songs.  One I can think of is I'll Be On My Way recorded by Billy J. Kramer I think, who was also under contract with EMI.  Paul gave Peter Asher A World Without Love  to record as Peter and Gordon. Those songs were far superior to Now and Then. This song would never have made the cut back then as a Beatles song!
