He was sitting in his den with the TV on and he was taking a nap. All is well. Thanks for giving me the push to do something.
@drizzellla ....THANK THE LORD!!! AND..thank you for taking it upon yourself to go inside. Maybe start checking on him every couple of days and let him know you want to do that in case he needs something. I hope he is okay and know he will be with a wonderful neighbor like yourself.

@drizzellla I am glad your neighbor is alive, but from what you described all is not well. You must try to get the phone number of a family member or contact adult social services.
In America, making the decision of whether and how to intervene is so difficult and complicated.

@drizzellla Good news but as someone else said, please ask him for the phone number of at least one of his kids.
By leaving things like mail and meds he's obviously NOT doing well and needs assistance.
Please do what you can to contact a relative and let them know. This poor old guy is in bad shape, that's obvious.

Okay, this is going to be morbid, and I don't mean for it to be, but how do you know that he was napping?
Did you see/hear him breathing?
Was he snoring?
The fact that he didn't answer his phone, or when you called his name has me concerned that he might have died while watching tv.

You're kind, extremely so.
Bless him for having you as a neighbor.
Welfare Check, definitely.

@drizzellla @Thank you for being a good neighbor. He gave you the key for a reason.

Did he speak to you? Did you ask him why he hadn't picked up his mail and how concerned you were?
I don't think he is doing well if he doesn't go get his mail, meds, etc. If he can't hear the phone ring while sleeping, that could be very dangerous for him. And no lights on for several days? I'd still call Adult Services and ask them to look into his situation. Let THEM contact his kids about his care. I wouldn't contact the kids directly because they don't seem to care much about their Dad. Very sad.

@drizzellla Something is not right. With your inital concerns and you found him napping ? Did he wake up and speak ? If he didnt, something is wrong.

Just wanted to add that if this situation continues over the next couple of days -- no lights, drapes open, etc., I would call the police and ask for a welfare check.
If the police think this man is endangering himself and not in a safe situation, they will call Adult Services. And I think they would get a faster response from Adult Services than if a neighbor called.
You are such a good neighbor, everyone should have a neighbor like you!

@drizzellla As others have suggested, call for a welfare check. Since you have a key to his house, might you be willing go in and see if he has a list of phone numbers for his kids?
Please let us know the outcome. Such a sad situation.
