Just secure it and slip it under the door and walk away. She will be happy to receive the card and the check. Perhaps, she is waiting for that who knows

When something is in the trash, it appears to be just that. Since the OP has every intention of getting the card with check to the recipient, advising her she was felonious hardly seems necessary.

Just slip it under her door.
I can't believe you opened it though...

I know it is against the law to open it. The only reason I did, since it had been thrown away, was there was some heft to the envelope, like something other than a card might be inside. I initially thought maybe it was an ex-boyfriend who is having a hard time accepting she's moved on. Since the envelope was red, it is kinda hard to miss it. I thought, "well she recognized the return address and threw it away because she's had enough of this person bothering her".
I was worried if I had knocked on her door and handed it to her, unopened, not knowing the story, that she might have been upset of giving her the card that she obviously threw away.
I do thank you for your reply.
I would not open other people's mail in the future. Let this women handle her own affairs. I agree with the other members that said it might have been sent to the wrong address. And then placed in the trash because they did not want to get involved. I would just slip it under her door as I said before. Good luck with this.

I know why she investigated further. Aren't there worse things to get worked up about? Do you work for the post office?"Geez.... the drama" my eyeball. It is against federal law to open someone else's mail. Period. She didn't make a mistake. She acknowledged that she deliberately opened someone else's mail. It would have been a mistake if it was delivered to the OP and she opened it without noticing that it wasn't hers.
Don't believe me? Ask your letter carrier. SMH

I don't understand what the problem is????
Slip it under the door and call it a day.
It's not brain surgery. Sheesh.

Wow. You'd think some here think she was trying to forge the endorsement on the back of the check and cash the darn thing by bringing up opening someone else's mail is against the law.
Not that big of a deal. In the grand scheme of things.
Mark it delivered to wrong address and let post office re-deliver OR tape it to her door. I'd hope the apartment doors don't have big enough gaps to be slipping mail under the door.

slip it under the door or stick it back in a mailbox......BUT she herself may have put it in the trash......who knows what kind of relationship she has with the senders of the card?......maybe she didnt want to accept their money for whatever reason?
