check with courts.  they are a place that has used furniture that was used in model homes.  they can't sell the furniture as new but it is not really used either.  i bought a twin mattress with  the box springs there for $99.00 for both.  and it is flipable.  it was a simmons beauty rest.  they had had it cleaned and sanatized.  it was wrapped in plastic.  it had never been slept on and just been on display in a model home.

yhou can also check with matteress companies in your area to see ifany can make a flipable matteress

Re: Need Mattress help.....

I have always preferred Stearns &Foster....much higher quality than any other brands imho....have never been interested in any of the “ sleep systems” advertised now...DH and I both like our mattresses to be “slab-like” in firmness.....have never had a problem with Stearns & Foster and have them upstairs in three bedrooms as well as in our master. Most people I know also like this brand. SIL has spent thousands on Tempurpedic, Sleep Number, and several others...still hasn’t found one he likes. Will he try our brand?Nooooo...🙄

My life changed forever when we got a Sleep number bed.

Love my Tempur-pedic.  We've had one for over ten years.  We got a split king with adjustable bases.  I never adjust my side, but DH uses his sometimes.

After trying aonther kind of king bed at our lake house, we finally bought one for that house, too.  We both sleep so much better.  This time we chose a split king (for ease of moving it in and out of the house), but no adjustable bases.

NBC's TV show Consumer 101 (a Consumer Reports production) had one episode about choosing a mattress and...

"... with the help of a Consumer Reports expert, learns all about choosing the right mattress to help get a good night's sleep"

S1 E14:  "Rest Assured"

Fast forward to about 11.5 minutes into that video to see the part about mattresses.

Re: Need Mattress help.....

[ Edited ]

2 yrs ago, I needed a new mattress. I went to the local mattress shop where I had purchased 7 mattresses previously.  I have a 4 bedroom house - and replaced each mattress after many years. I purchased a Queen-Size Simmons Beautyrest Silver, Luxury Firm - it's medium/firm. It stays cool and the mattress is around 10" deep -- and the boxspring was too deep. The salesman special-ordered a 5" boxspring so the height of the mattress now fits me - as I'm short.

I recommend you check out Yelp for local mattress stores near ur house (not furniture stores) and read all the reviews. You could check out a couple of them and tell the salesmen what ur looking for - also price-wise - and lay on each mattress for a little while (although it's difficult to tell).

My salesman said I need to sleep on the mattress for 30 days to see if I'm happy - and within the following 60 days, I could exchange it. Well - I love my mattress. See if they offer that option. It was free delivery and setup - and they removed my other mattress. It was around Memorial Day - and I got a good discount.

Another choice is to order from costco on-line. They have many mattresses - some with a boxspring and some without. The mattresses that sit on a platform don't require a boxspring  - and I think it would be a lot easier to make the bed - and not need a bedskirt. Since u can't try out the mattresses, read all the reviews on costco's site --- and if ur not happy, Costco is great about picking up the mattress and replacing it.

Most of the mattress can't be flipped.

I want to thank everyone for their replies.

We finally settled on a Saatva.  Did some more research and read lots of reviews and are happy with our purchase.

I can't wait for it to arrive and for them to remove the one we have now.  I just hope the one we chose is the right "firmness"....... We chose the "luxury firm".....

Again - thanks to everyone....
