@sidsmom wrote:There’s a video I posted in post #12, which will help.
I used:
1/3 cup: diatomaceous earth, food grade
1/3 cup: bentonite clay
1/3 cup: baking soda
1 teaspoon: myrrh gum powder
1 tablespoon: cinnamon
1 pinch: stevia
Reminder:
I hesitate to post anything unless I tested it out thoroughly, but I did some online research...and everything regarding homemade toothpaste comes with a positive review. Commercial ‘natural’ formulas are available for purpose with practically the same ingredients, so that provides a comfort level to those questioning my ‘n.o.w. what is she up to?’ ways!

I’m in the beginning stages of this project & could end up bust in a couple months, but I’m willing to devote the time...love experiments! My purpose for making homemade toothpaste is for waste-reduction & whitening, so sensitivity will not be tracked.
I have a Sonicare toothbrush...but my gut says it’s ‘too’ much with this homemade formula (baking soda might cause issues). I’m thinking of reverting back to manual brushes for now...until I have my 6-month dental appointment in August.
HTH!
So, @sidsmom, how did your experiment go? Have you stuck with this tooth cleaning method? I still have it on my vanity in a covered dish and I use it off and on. I had to use it along with my regular toothpaste beause it didn't leave my mouth tasting fresh. However, I had an excellent report at my teeth cleaning appointment this summer. No plaque. I ususally don't have much, but this was one of the shortest cleanings ever. I go once a year for a cleaning.
My husband wasn't into it before, but I am mixing up his own container of it today because he got a bad report from his dentist about his gums and future teeth problems. He has dry mouth as a result of a bone marrow transplant. All of the OTC products have done little to alleviate it. It is surprising how important saliva is to our health.
I am curious as to how you and others did with this recipe.

@goldensrbestI find that the product in the jar gets rock hard before you can use it up.... So I quit using it as my Tooth paste. I went through several jars that half way through it I ended up tossing it. Not cost effective....

YAY..you got a good dentenal report! Woot!
Me? Experiment still a positive...still using.
When I went to my dental appointment...just a status quo.
Not a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ to report. I did mention to my hygienist
what I was doing...and she approved for full time usage
with my SonicCare.
I DO miss the flavor & fizzy of regular toothpaste from time to time.
But, more importantly, it feels good to know I’m not using lots of
plastics & packaging..and if I’m running low, I just go to the
kitchen pantry!
Sorry to hear about your husband’s issues. Wouldn’t hurt to try to
see if it helps. He would be the ultimate experiment. Start using now
and when y’all go back to the next appointment, there might be
positive changes!
Happy it worked for you....and I know it’ll work for your husband!
Thanks for circling back!

@sidsmom Thanks for mentioning the SoniCare. My husband uses one and I wondered about that. I'll let him know. Funny, but I have never cared for the way the SonicCare feels. I have always used a manual toothbrush. I guess it is working for me.
I hope to come back with a positive report. The dentist mentioned a specialist for DH for his gums. YIKES!
