I use PerioBrite by Nature’s Answer. It’s concentrated so you only use a pea size. Color is a taupe/brown because it’s all natural. It has ingredients that promote healthy gums and teeth.  I really like it and feel my breath is fresher, teeth are whiter and feel really clean.

Have to tell you a funny story.

I ordered all my stuff through an herbal company...but the DE

was from Amazon. I was so excited to get this going,

I immediately chose the ‘Prime’ option..and went about my day.

When the box (tip off...’box’) arrived...by mistake, I ordered a

10lb bag of food grade diatomaceous earth!!!

I did a quick ‘cost/time analysis’ and decided to just keep it.

But I’ve been giggling over my mistake all day.

I have enough of this stuff to last 2, no, 3 lifetimes!!

What is the best whitening toothpaste, homemade or big brands or your favorites that work for you?

Have become a dedicated fan of Arm & Hammer baking soda and peroxide toothpaste.

No longer have a hygienist or dentist lecturing that coffee is staining my teeth, or plaque is building up, or whatever else I might be doing wrong.

Baking soda cleans,  the peroxide disinfects.....what more can I ask of a single toothpaste?

Don't know the current advice on mixing plain salt and baking soda as a homemade paste for teeth, but did try that for a while.

Must caution, however, that I  have for several years been using  an electric Oral B brush that probably does most of the work, since I long ago quit using a manual brush.

Highly recommend the rechargeable electrric brushes on the market today, along with my trusty Arm & Hammer brand.

Tom's started as a good brand.........then Colgate bought them.  Never used it again.

@sidsmom  Will you please post the recipe for this toothpaste?  I am very interested as I have extremely sensitive teeth. 

BTW You can use the DE for other things.  If you have a pet, you can work it through their fur if they have fleas being careful not to breathe in the fine dust (you and the pet).  Also it can be broadcast in your yard for the same reason.  Sprinkling in your carpet and vacuuming can help rid your home of fleas if that ever becomes a problem. It can be taken orally to get rid of worms.

There’s a video I posted in post #12, which will help.

I used:

1/3 cup: diatomaceous earth, food grade

1/3 cup: bentonite clay

1/3 cup: baking soda 

1 teaspoon: myrrh gum powder

1 tablespoon:  cinnamon

1 pinch:  stevia

Reminder:

I hesitate to post anything unless I tested it out thoroughly, but I did some online research...and everything regarding homemade toothpaste comes with a positive review.  Commercial ‘natural’ formulas are available for purpose with practically the same ingredients, so that provides a comfort level to those questioning my ‘n.o.w. what is she up to?’ ways!

I’m in the beginning stages of this project & could end up bust in a couple months, but I’m willing to devote the time...love experiments!   My purpose for making homemade toothpaste is for waste-reduction & whitening, so sensitivity will not be tracked.  

I have a Sonicare toothbrush...but my gut says it’s ‘too’ much with this homemade formula (baking soda might cause issues).  I’m thinking of reverting back to manual brushes for now...until I have my 6-month dental appointment in August.
