Re: National Do Not Call Registry

I'm registered and occasionally start getting calls I don't want. Specifically, this # lately:

704-247-4057 which I've reported, many times to the DONOT call complaint section.

Just got another robo call from folks who pretend to be affiliated with our gas and electric company regarding energy savings, etc............I always press #2 to be removed, but they keep calling. Can you imagine who they hire to send to our homes to access the energy/heating/whatever! OMGosh.......

You should read the thread, Stop Answering The Calls.

Some of those fundraising/charities are not legitimate, too. You have to ask for the name of their company, write it down, their phone number, and their address. Even if they only give you their company/charity/whatever's name, look it up. Most/many/some of them are a rented telemarketing office where most/all of the money ends up. Even if they say that they are not a telemarketer (one lady comes to mind), you should look up the charity/whatever, etc.

I wouldn't press ANY number because it tells them 'we got an active phone number here'!

DO NOT call them back. That just lead to more calls. Especially is it is a robocall. Robocalls do not have your number. They push in phone numbers like a crup shoot. When one hits, and answers, they do not have your phone number, but they have you. From there they pump for information.

It can take up to 30 days for a reported call to stop. Some never do stop. They do it because they can. I have noticed more calls the last couple months than ever before. I get 3 or 3 a day. I take every number off the caller ID and go online and report it.

I was told to not answer the call unless you recognize the number.

That's so important, shoekitty.

Do NOT answer, and NEVER call them back. In some cases, calling them back can result in large, bogus long-distance charges added to your phone bill, especially with cell phone calls.

I'll repeat what I wrote:

"The robocalls simply sequence through a random list of numbers and wait for someone to answer.

And once you answer, you've just been marked as a "live number."

Then you risk the chance your number will be shared or sold.

This is the reason security experts advise you NOT to answer, NOT to engage these unethical callers."

I don't believe some posters read this, this is the good advice. (-:

PatsyCline: Yes, I forgot to mention on this particular thread that I do not answer the landline phone, too. It keeps ringing throughout the day, and I've already told my neighbors and everybody to only call my cell phone. I happened to be standing there near the kitchen phone, otherwise I never get up to answer my landline.

Plus, important people will leave a message, just in case it's important.

chickenbutt, we put "no solicitation" signs on both sides of our mailbox- as several of our neighbors have too and yesterday we put a metal No Solicitation sign next to the ADT security sign in the front yard. Got ours from Amazon..

I truly hope it works better for you than it has helped me. I put a sign on my mailbox right next to the doorbell. Didn't work. Typed up a sign and plastered it to the storm door - that one was more specific. Didn't work. Added another sheet of paper that was EVEN more specific. Hasn't worked. Put up 'private property, no trespassing' signs. That doesn't work either.

One of the signs I made also says 'DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING ON THIS PROPERTY' and they still leave their qrap on my door or porch or whatever. Clearly, I have a 'thing' about this but it just doesn't matter to these people. It doesn't matter that this is my property, on which I pay the taxes and mortgage. That should give them no rights. I tried to get the husband to build a 12' fence with a moat and alligators but, alas, that is not to happen either. Smiley Happy
