Wearing a dress or suit to my college football games.

Celebrating May Day (May 1) all through elementary school. During the winter months, we prepared for the highly anticipated celebration by learning all sorts of dances that we performed after dancing around the Maypole. The girls were always sure to wear their flounciest dresses and the boys wore dress shirts and slacks.
Our school had a wide expanse of grass, and we invited another elementary school to join our festivities.
My community was settled by the English and Germans, and so many of the European celebrations were honored for years (at least until my generation; after my crowd, I think the tradition was dropped).
Leap to college years. Did you have to wear the Freshman Beanie? I did.

No, but I still have the felt beanie from my elementary school. Ironically, the same school colors as those of my university: Green and gold.

I still have some of these in my desk! And the pack of crayons from grade school that I had left over one year.
Hold onto those old crayons. The quality of new crayons is not what it used to be. I wish I had some of the old ones.

Great thread. Brought back many memories. Thanks for posting it.
Does anyone else remember The Lloyd Thaxton Show, or was this just in California? It was filmed here. It was similar to ****** Clark. It was on here at 5:00PM every weekday. Kids dancing to the records that were on the radio, at the time. And they usually had a guest singing their current hit. They also had one of the kids lip sync to a record, every day.
In addition to Green Stamps, we also had Blue Chip Stamps. Not sure if that was nationwide, or local. I got a lot of good things with my stamp books.
ETA: They didn't allow me to type the name, but it's short for Richard. Richard Clark, American Bandstand LOL.

Magnetic metal shavings to make his beard and hair...oh so lifelike!
We must've gone through a hundred Magic Slates in my childhood too...doodle, lift to erase, doodle again and again. Erasing only half the page and trying to remake your drawing was fun stuff back then.
I agree with the fun of Paper Dolls too!
Paper Kites with old rags for tails
Magic Eightball
Etch-A-Sketch
Tracing Paper

@ScarletDove. I was just about to post that! No, the young people today would never understand party lines! They had absolutely nothing to do with partying!

I own a 2012 Honda Civic and since I don't drive often, I put on very little mileage. Yesterday it lit up on my dash "Tire Pressure Low." I had no idea what to do so I drove to 2 different gas stations. One man said he's the only one there. The other gas station, the female said she's not allowed to leave the food area. She offered to turn on the air for me --- and I said, "I have no idea how to put air in my tires." So - tomorrow I'll head out to the Honda Dealership where I bring my car.
Driving back to my house, I started reminiscing how they used to give full service at the gas stations: lifted up the hood to check the oil, put gas in the car, wash the windows, etc. When I started driving 50 yrs ago, gas was 26 cents a gallon in Los Angeles, CA.

When the streetlights come on, get your butt home quickly!
@house_cat we did not have streetlights, when it was getting dark was the clue to get home!
