Before the invention of the zip code, residential districts were referred to as  zones which consisted of a one or two digit number written between the city and state for example:  Detroit 4, Michigan.

I also still write most things in shorthand. Years ago, I went to a real estate school (mid-1970s)  and they didn't allow u to take the test questions home - so I wrote down the whole test questions/answers in shorthand and studied at home. In 1979, I worked a day job - and a part-time night job where I used the IBM PC (DOS). I just had to type - didn't have to figure out different programs, etc.  I was also a realtor from 1987--1990 and that's when companies were teaching the computer to employees - so I missed out -- and never caught up. I'm not technology-oriented and never owned a cell phone. Reading ur description of electronics - I have no idea!!!! I have male roomies - when my computer goes bonkers - I ask one of them to help me. One time, my computer didn't work properly and no one was around - so I went to a man who lived across the street.

I use a desktop - and have 7 stickie notes taped to it.

In 2015, I bought a 2012 Honda Civic and still don't know how to use the radio, change the time --- or anything else. They gave me a booklet with the car - but I never read it.

I'm still figuring out the window button from the door lock.

I haven't read all of the posts, but when I started wearing nylon hosiery

it was with a garter belt....there were 2 attachments per leg and you had

to keep your skirt down well so they would not show.  Eventually they came

up with panty hose...such a wonderful change!
