These are meant for smaller orders.
Today on a busy weekend, when there are 12-16 other 'regular' check out aisles open
2 different shoppers are tying up the self check lanes trying to ring up HUGE cart full orders!!!!
The one guy has 2 toddlers running around- so he is trying to deal with them and scan hundreds of items and bag them and of course the area is not designed for this so there is no room for any of this to happen. So his order and the other yahoo doing the same thing have groceries and bags everywhere.
I am standing there with my 1 item; watching this like a sitcom.
((((Sigh)))))
If you have hundreds of items to be scanned go to the regular check out lane where there is a conveyor belt, a cashier, and a bagging area.
Common Sense Please.

Realize that first of all, this was a man . . . with two very young children . . . at a grocery store for heaven's sake. He must have done something awful to his spouse to be punished in this way! Lord help that poor man!!
You know I see men with their children all of the time, why would that be unusual or a punishment ? They are their children.
Of course you do. But isn't anything funny to you? Must be
pretty miserable.

I was so spolied with online grocery shopping.
I hate the supermarket!
The only time I would go is if it is very early but then they don't always have all the stock out yet.

You ladies crack me up ! Germs are everywhere. It doesn't matter where you are at home in the stores in the Dr.s office there are germs. As for the grocery stores. Just go with it. I had my turn with bringing small kids to the store and checking out with them crying and trying to check out at the same time. I was a coupon saver and I always had quite a few. I used to comments with people behind me saying your taking too long. I didn't care. I saved 20.00. Just be prepared when you go the grocery store. And yes I still write out checks at the different stores I go to.

That poor woman.
I've had my share of frustrating episodes at the store, but this sort of thing makes me sad and uncomfortable.
I might quietly offer to help pay for the amount she was short and hope she wasn't offended.
I've seen this happen with older folks, too, and that also breaks my heart. Again, I would step up and offer to pay.
Not that I'm an angel, but the idea that people cannot afford food really upsets me.
Yes, I know that they might squander their money elsewhere, but I try not to judge and try to be helpful when I can.

@Witchy Woman, Stories like this break my heart, it is easy to be judgemental when your not in her shoes. You sound like a kind compassionate person.

Now that I'm retired I can go to the store early when no one is there. That way, I can chat with the produce guy or other shoppers and there is no stress.
Our store is very good about opening lanes when things are crowded, but we do not have self check.
Believe me, I've been behind people that I thought would make my head explod, but not so much early in the morning.
Mostly, I'm just battling the young mothers pushing their kids around in those gigantic shopping carts that look like race cars or trains or whatever. Those things are real aisle hogs!

As soon as we get home from the grocery store I scrub my hands with soap and water.. I guess when I worked in radiology I learned to be more aware of germs & etc...
