There are easier ways to get a bomb on a plane than traveling as a passenger. Baggage handlers, for one. There is no way to secure a plane.

Americans are so spoiled.  Everything has to be convenient.

Maybe all Americans should be required to live in other countries for a time, where airport security is much tighter and where people deal with the inconvenience because they understand the consequences of having lax security.

@QueenDanceALot- you are quite right.   Many countries have dogs patrolling in wait areas after you clear security.  In NZ, you have to show your boarding pass for your flight home before you enter their security checks.  After you pass security, you must go through agricultural secuity and speak with a screener and answer questions.  There is no terrorism in NZ, yet, security is tight and time consuming.  El Al Airlines spends more on security than creature comforts and I wish every airline did the same.  I fly out of NY/NJ and wish security were better.

The TSA could take a lesson from these other countries, they are MORE secure and more Efficient at it.

I think El AL has one of the best safety records out there, but they do not put up with much (and rightfully so).

I frequently fly out of BWI and Minneapolis, MN (don't know the name of the airport) and NEVER have to wait more than... 15 minutes or so?

I would go bonkers if I had to wait in line for that long. Actually, my leg would give out due to nerve damage (can't stand for long periods of time before it goes numb).  I feel for those, OMG, do I!!

People are saying that they want tighter, stricter security.

Okay, fine.

But that takes money.

Lots and lots of money.

How much are people willing to pay for an airline ticket in order to have that tighter and stricter security?

Double the price?

Triple?

The money has to come from someplace to pay for the better security, and you had better believe that it would be the passengers who would pay for it.

I haven't read all the replies here, but I am very passionate about TSA, too. I am a Road Warrior, on at least 4 - 6 flights per week. I am TSA PRE Check.

NO, I will absolutely NOT check my bags. I pack properly and follow TSA rules. I refuse to spend time waiting on luggage. My home airport, for example is notoriously slow with baggage.

TSA is a joke. Workers standing around doing NOTHING. It is a joke! But, not funny!

Security should be handled similarly to other countries that do it better, including Israel. It should be privatized.

It is the POOREST managed system.

@Abrowneyegirl- very true about El Al but many Americans complain about comfort and that there isn't enough room, the food and attitude of the cabin staff; I could care less....just get me there safely.  After, you pass US security, they have their own before you board their plane.

@Abrowneyegirl- they are much smaller countries and don't have the volume.  We do need more screeners in certain airports but not all.  And, the TSA needs assistance and cooperation from passengers as well and allow extra time for yourself to get through security checks.

I'm fully supportive of whatever efforts are taken by the TSA. They're not perfect but so far we've been protected and no one has gotten through them and done harm.
