To leave doors unlocked is very unsafe, and in any neighborhood foolish in my opinion. For those who think keeping a gun makes you safe, think again. When you are sleeping you can be attacked as the home invasion in CT. Read about it.

I would rather be dead than live with the constant fear many have expressed here.I live in a gated community - not by choice , they are ALL gated in Florida these days - and I live in a nice area, not a ghetto. That is all the "security " i need.
I hate to tell you all this but if you have sliding glass doors anyone can lift them right out of the track even when locked and walk right into your house. It only takes a moment to do. Don't you think crooks , rapists and murderers know that?

There was a lady in DeKalb county a few weeks ago- now mind you it just irks me when people have garages and choose to park outside, anyway, her car was broken into.. they took her PURSE, yes her PURSE and everything- she couldn't understand why they'd do that... DUH, they took her electronics and a box of sample electronics, she'd left them all out in plain sight. We've pulled up next to vehicles with the purse in the passenger seat, all kinds of stuff for the taking & windows rolled down.. Is it my imagination or do people not think of the consequences for making a robbery easier and then get all upset when it happens to them?

I bet that banker think he was there in Conn. and his wife and kids lived in a nice neighborhood too that don't mean squat. Half the gated communities I've gone to nobody is ever at the gate and we drove right in.
Can't depend on somebody to take care of you I learned that a long, long time ago.

When I was working I used to leave the keys in the car and my purse too but the car was locked in the garage. Now we are retired and only have one car I must take the purse out because my DH would drive around leaving the purse in an unlocked car all over town if I don't. Whenever i see a purse in an unattended car I always think - husband!I am 66 years old and have never had anything stolen. Knock on wood. I think it has more to do with the areas you frequent than if you lock or not.

Anybody remember poor Connie Francis and what happened to her yrs. ago? I wouldn't have sliding glass doors myself. My sister has french doors and I worry to death for her. Told her to get the biggest dead bolt they make, 2 5/8ths I think (what I got). Although , with glass what good will that do you.
When I built my new home I knew how to lay it out.

OOPs I take that back - I had my purse stolen once from my locked locker in a locked employee locker room at work. It was across the hall from the visitor waiting room and the crooks walked in carrying bolt cutters and cut all the locks then took about 20 purses and walked right past the visitors with them and not one of those visitors said or did anything. However, hospital security did stop them at the door and they did get arrested. So much for the LOCKED locker room and the LOCKED lockers protecting our belongings.

Unbelievable ! they will have your information and leave you wide open for Identity theft by taking your purse with drivers license, credit cards, home address, etc.

There are several upper class subdivions around us... cars were being broken into during the night ... thank goodness someone had a security video camera going- it was some of the rich people's kids doing the deed!! I mean some of these homes have 3 and more garages, why they don't park in them is beyond me.. half a million dollar and up homes..
