Re: My Neighbors Got Robbed

[ Edited ]

An alarm and light timers can help.  What do you do when you're on vacation or out of town on business. Hire a blind turner?

A few years back there were several break ins in either Marietta or Smyrna, anyway come to find out it was hair stylists from one shop.  Their clients would talk about going on vacation and that's when they struck.  We tell no one about our comings and goings & always set the security system.

I don't quite understand your question.  I probably need more coffee.

So many steps can help.  Keep all windows locked at all times.  Unless you are working out in your yard, keep your garage doors closed and locked at all times.  We have several lights that are always on in our home.  You can buy timers so that your lights follow a certain pattern.  An alarm system is very effective.  Our local police have confirmed this when we quizzed them.  We have dead-bolt locks on our doors.

When we are away, despite stopping our mail and newspapers, our neighbors know and keep an eye on our home.  Fortunately, we have had no problems in our neighborhood.

You hope it never happens to you.  If it ever does, hope and pray you aren't home if someone or someones invade your home.  No matter what, it's not a good scene.

When we travel of course you stop the mail, our blinds are always closed most of the time and in this position so you can't see in.... sorry the picture is so big.. also timers on the inside lights for the very same time as hubby turns them on each morning... we are the only ones with a street light too plus we have motion lights on each corner of our house..

I'm more surprised by the fact that a truck was loaded up with the stolen items and no one saw it happening. I certainly don't keep my blinds closed at night unless I'm walking around in my jammies.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and prepare for some possible negative remarks.

According to what I have seen and read, if you wake up during the night with noises in your home, you should have a plan in place.  I think it's good advice.

Keep a charged cell phone in your bedroom at night at all times.  Have a strong lock on your bedroom door and immediately lock it.  Call 911.

Now I realize not all are in my situation, where the police are a couple minutes away.  Also, our bedroom is on the second floor of our house.

A friend whose DH is a retired police detective has also given good advice.  Another  thing he has said - a big dog in your home is only good for a warning.  If someone breaks in your home with a gun, the first thing they do is -----your dog.

I don't plan on living in a cave either...but I am not going to advertise my 60" TV or electronics and dare some drug addict looking to score some stolen items for his next fix......
