Predsfan - looks like they sent out a scouting party here, too! i was outside on the patio after putting up the feeder a little while ago and saw something buzz by me and thought it was some big insect! out of the corner of my eye i noticed the little hovering rainbow so it looks like they are getting ready to visit!
i hope it will be like last year when i had to fill up the feeders at least twice a day.

we keep one variety of hummer all year long........but the migrators are starting to arrive............love my hummers...........................raven

We have them pretty much all year too.
The migrators are coming through now and it's a rip roaring battle some days when they are fighting over territory. I usually have a nest in the olive tree in my back yard.

I haven't seen any hummingbirds yet, but the robins have been here since February. They are not exactly the smartest birds. Soon they will be building their nests in places where humans and other animals can easily reach them. I have never understood the logic in that, but I guess that's where we get the term bird brain. They have no logic.

All I am seeing besides robins and chickadees are green shelled snails.

For all who love Hummers, this is a wonderful non-fiction with actual pictures of the birds depicted in the book. It's available on Amazon. I bought it for my daughter, but read it first. Sweet and heartwarming.

I refilled the two already out and set out four more. Gotta' pick up more because some are old and can't handle it any more. Hope you have all your returns (which you should) and their friends.

Thank you anisa. I'm going to look for this book. We love our hummers and we lost all the trees that they nested in. It looks like a lot of them still remember and still come here, but they have to nest elsewhere. That's part of the reason we will have so many feeders always out.

You are welcome, Predsfan. It's a short book and a quick read, but well worth it. The pictures that Don Carroll took are spectacular. My daughter has three feeders in her yard. The hummers give her great pleasure. She also has a large fountain and those babies love the water.
