I try not to talk about my dad too much (I hope!), but every since my dad gave up driving earlier this year, he doesn't get out as often as he used to, and since I have spent the last week sick, I couldn't take him anywhere.
I was feeling a lot better today, and I knew that Dad wanted to get out of the house, so I suggested that we go to a local casino.
When we got there, Dad asked for a roll of quarters, because that way he can keep track of how much he is spending.
I told him that the machines don't take quarters, as I took $80 from the ATM, $40 for him to play with, and $40 for me.
First, I took him to single line, three reel quarter slot machine.
I showed him how to put his money in, pres the button to spin the reels, how much he won, etc.
When he wanted to move on, I showed him how to cash out.
At that point, he had broken even.
I found us each a penny digital slot machine.
He was sitting at one, and I was sitting at one.
As I was playing mine, I was trying to show him how to play his.
He ended up doubling his money.
I ended up a little bit better than breaking even.
We moved on to slots #3.
Again, both were penny digital slots and next to each other.
Again, I was trying to show him how to play his, as I was playing mine.
All of a sudden my machine starts going crazy, and I am racking up credits.
When I cashed out, I had $45.
At that point, Dad wanted to leave, so we went to the cashier's cage, and cashed out our tickets.
After that, we had dinner at a seafood restaurant, before coming home.
So, my dad had fun.
He expressed an interest in going out to the casinos more often, and that is something that we can definitely do.

I enjoy hearing about things you and your dad do together because it reminds of the last few years I spent with mine. We never did the casino, although we're very close to one. We're both too cheap to lose money, I guess. Our big thing was eating out. He also lost his license due to poor vision.
The funniest thing that happened was when at age 92, he got "carded" at Applebee's when he ordered a glass of wine. He had the whole restaurant in stitches.

It's very nice you had a Dad and daughter date. A friend of mine has dinner with her father every Friday night.

I'm so happy to hear that you are able to do things with your Dad, mine lived too far away but at least I was able to take him to the ocean (his sight was gone too) before he died, it was pouring rain and the waves were crashing on the shore. He loved the ocean (:

Dad and daughter time is special. Great story. My dad passed away in 2009. We had our quality time. He taught me basic house maintenance. I live far from my mother. When I go to visit, we always go to the casino and eat out. My mother some how manages to go home with what she started with. It's our bonding time.

So glad to hear you both had fun spending time together. My ex and I also use to take my dad to spend a fun day at the casino. He loved playing lotto, had never been to a casino and it took a lot of coaxing before he agreed to go. My father was 88 when he first stepped foot into a casino. I only wish it wasn't such a long drive, (1hr 45min) but dad handled the trip well. Boy did he love the slot machines, he didn't want to stop even to have a bite to eat. He had so much fun and looked so forward to every trip after that. I think of those times very often. I loved seeing my father have such fun, we all did![]()

How wonderful that you and your dad took the time to spend it together and you had fun. You and he will always have memories of days like this.
You both are so fortunate that you can get together like this.
