I have Comcast & they're rip-off artists just like the others. Right now, they're bombarding me with cr*p trying to get me to "upgrade" to X1. I don't have the leverage to change because the apt bldg I live in is only wired for Comcast. Somebody (Comast) sure got a deal on that when this bldg was built 2 years ago - huh?
After the outage on Monday, they're offering customers 2 DOLLARS credit, & you have to call them to get it, they don't automatically give it to everyone who was affected. Last night, my cable & phone were out for 1.5 hours & I know they won't offer any kind of credit for it.
I'm about to retire & need to cut expenses, so I'm thinking of quitting cable tv altogether, & probably the landline, so all I'll need from Comcast is internet. I just got a smart tv as I believe we'll all eventually be getting all our tv from the internet. Yeah, I know, so they'll jack up the prices for that when the time comes. What a racket

Very interesting thread. Now I know I'm not the only one dealing with this issue. Our two year bundle contract with AT&T just expired and in March, our bill is jumping from $144 to $212 per month. I called them and explained that my DH and I are are now on fixed incomes, he is no longer able to work, and asked if they offered senior discount. Nope, no senior discounts. Basically, they could care less. I want to cancel our landline, but then they would probably raise our TV and internet fees even higher. Trying to get through to them on the phone is a nightmare. I was on hold for a very long time.

Even if you are prepared to dump your current provider and go with someone cheaper, once your promotional package with your new provider is over, you'll be back in the same boat.
Years and years ago we got fed up with TWC and switched to DirectTV. We loved them but once our 2 year promo package was up, our monthly rate doubled. Then after a year it nearly doubled again. At that point we were paying more than bundling through TWC so we went back.
My cousin had AT&T Uverse and loved them. We can't get them where I am. He couldn't talk about them highly enough. Then his promos ran out and his bills kept going up. Now you should hear what he has to say about them. LOL
I'm half tempted to go on TimeWarners FB page and rip into them for their horrendous CS.

I often threaten TWC that I may take my business elsewhere as I get offers in the mail. Really though where am I going? It has to be an ordeal switching, sending the equipment back and I imagine it takes some time for the installation of the new equipment. Also I imagine every company has their challenges and unhappy customers. Sometimes the devil you know is better than the one you don't.

they all play the same game. I have had AT&T for 2 years, took phone calls and letters all the way up to the office of the president for me to get a bundled deal that was acceptable. Now 2 years later, they too doubled the bill, I went into the AT&T store with all my paperwork from 2 years ago and basicaly said I will call the President office again and file a complaint with the FCC over this gouging.
They convinced me to switch to Direct TV which is now owned by AT&T, told me AT&T is basicaly going to go out fo the cable business since they use old phone lines. They bought Direct TV so they could have all their broadband. Apparently there is only so much and AT&T could not get any without buying Direct TV.
So I signed up for the 2 year deal. My package gives me free /dvr, 220+ channels, 18 mps internet speed for $76.00 a month. I do not have a landline. 2 years ago some dummy at AT&T told me the only way I could get a good bundled deal was to have a landline so they sent me some equipment to install it. I never did. It even had a phone number attached to it.
Ridiculous! These games they play are nonsense and with the advent of Hulu, Netflix, amazon and so forth, soon they will all be going out of business as people stop paying for cable. In 2 years I'll have to go through all this again!

OMG, I have to call up Cox Communications today and I dread it. $207 bill now. Half of the time it doesn't work or the box goes bad and needs to be changed.
I dread calling. Wish me luck!

not really, I took back the AT&T box to UPS, they ship it back at ATT expense. Told me to keep the receipt for 2 years because people have said they got unexplained charges that ATT said they nver got back their equipment.
As for the installation, it took 2 hours most of it was outside, maybe 1/2 hour in the house hooking up the box and showing me how to use it.

So, most of them are in the internet business, too, so they'll just get us there. If there's money to be made, there's no limit to their machinations.
