Our back door gets stuck every winter. It's not the ground with ours. Either the door itself or the walls swell enough that when you turn the knob the thing-a ma-jig won't clear it's plate so we have to turn the knob and jerk it real hard to the left to get it open. To get it opened from the outside it takes a real good hip bump. My hips are in bad shape right now.

yes, but I read her post stating she bought a home and it was on display at some Buffalo garden tour. Sounded like a free standing home to me.

After an extremely cold winter last year, we noticed that the door to our sunroom did not close as well as it had.

okay, around here condos only have people that maintain outside and common areas like snow plowing and such. I don't know of any that have onsite maintenance men for individual units. One of my children lives in one and his condo fees are for trash, lawnmowing, snow plowing, maintaining the pool and playground area. That's about it, entrance ways, signage etc.

I live in a 3 story, two family brownstone (looks like the homes in New Orleans with a front wrought iron balcony). We are part of a condo association - the main 5 story building is on the corner and we are right behind it.

The HOA is responsible for all the outside maintenance, including the doors, windows and our balcony. They also do some inside work - the furnace, the hot water heater. They wash the windows inside and out twice a year and have someone in to remove lint from the clothesdryer lines too. They take good care of us (for a price!!!)

Our brownstone doesn't have a basement, it's built on a cement pad. Years ago, when my house became part of the condo association, they ran hot water pipes between the main building and our unit. The hot water registers heat our first floor. The cement pad (where the pipes run) is what has raised up, preventing the storm door from working. It has raised so subtly, we really can't see it - the door just won't clear.

I was surprised that out maintenance guy said the same thing happened this year at commercial buildings too.

No need to explain yourself terrier. Some people will question anything. Yes, it must be nice to have a maintenance man. Kudos to you for your hard work. Now, regarding your screen door. If the weather isn't supposed to warm in your area soon, it may be in your best interest to remove it for now. You might either bend/damage it while squeezing through, or as another poster said, it might hinder your ability to get out in an emergency. You could always hang some plastic or a blanket at the door if you feel you are losing some additional insulation. Good luck.

My friend has lived in her home for over 50 years and this years for the first time ever she cannot open her front entrance door. She even has a storm door that is heavy in front of her entrance door plus a big porch with a roof over it. The door refuses to open so she has to use her back side yard door. A mystery for sure but guess we will have to wait for spring.
