Well, I'm Italian and part Sicilian. The story of Columbus Day was written withe the blood of 11 Sicilian immigrants who were savagely lynched by an angy mob in New Orleans in 1891.
Those who orchestrated and carried out the lynchng went free, sparking a diplomatic crisis between the U.S. and Italian governments.
To help resolve the issue and curry favor with Italian American voters, U.S. President Benjamin Harrison held the first national Columbus Day celebration in 1892, 400 years after the navigator's historic discovery of North America.
The Italian Sons amd Daughters of America is fighting the cancel-culture mob attempting to tear down statues of Chistopher Columbus, a daring Italian explorer who reshaped world history.
My Grandmothers BD, who was an immigrant from Italy. May she rest in piece. Time the Italians fought for their rights.

I am of Italian descent and not a fan of Christopher Columbus. I prefer Indigenous Peoples Day.

Things that we have had for eons. now certain people have decided they need cancelled. As for Columbus and the day and the statues, they should stay as is. They can ear-mark another day for Indigenous People Day. I have nothing against any nationality or people, but I am tired of some people just deciding that history should not matter and should just be stricken and replaced. History and things and events did happen - good and bad -- no matter what some think. It's not just Columbus Day, it's many things and many events and days.

Indigenous people ARE the true history, it's easy to research.
If anyone has been "cancelled" for a long long time it's Native Americans. It's actually arrogant to think otherwise.

@qvcaddition and Indiginous Peoples' Day is written in the blood of the countless lives lost under colonization, and specifically those worked, starved, and beaten to death under the rule of Columbus as Viceroy and Governor of the Indies. It seems one man's hero is another man's villian.
