Mole checks for dogs and cats

This is something that I never thought of in all of the years we have had pets. So, I thought I would pass it along.

I never thought to check under our pets fur for moles or other growths. I just assumed that if there was a problem, there would be a lump, or something that was very visible.

Well, Saturday night, of course while my husband was out of town, I was petting my cat, Lucy, when I noticed a large, brownish/black mole on her abdomen, right around her n*pple. It scared the heck out of me. If I had found it on myself, I would have been expecting the worse.

Hubby got home on Sunday evening, and he didn't like the look of it either. First thing Monday morning, we called the vet and got her in that afternoon.

She said she was 99.99999% sure it was benign. And, she found a second smaller one near by. She said we could watch them and measure them on a weekly basis. And, if they grew in size, then we could have them removed.

We opted to have them removed immediately, and she had her surgery today. The vets are extremely confident that they are benign, but will still have them biopsied as a precaution.

My little patient is resting comfortably tonight. Of course, no jumping for a few days. And, she'll get her little staples out in 10 days.

I'm glad I caught this. And, I'll be doing regular checks from now on. It's just not something I ever thought to do. I'm also going to ask the vet to do it when they all go in for their check-ups.

"I've been here since October 2006. Wow!"
