The new Miss America is an active duty air force pilot, so how is she able to do her duties as Miss America.? Either the military suffers, or the pagent suffers, do you think they even thought this through

I think she is an amazing young woman and wish her all the best life has to offer.

@willomenia I bet if it matters to the contest, they would have warned her along the way.  I'm not concerned.  I think it's good for the military, too.  Might make military jobs more attractive to some young women.

I am certain the military is well aware of her time commitment. I cannot envision any program that would give a female pilot more of a national spotlight than touring as Miss America.  The pageant itself has strict rules about Miss America's conduct and her appearances.

For sure all the boxes were checked before she started.

No doubt she will be doing wonderful PR work for the Air Force.  Hope more girls will rise their sights.

Much better role model than some who can barely mumble "World Peace".

I'm sure the Air Force was all in or she wouldn't have gone to the pageant to begin with.

The US Air Force and the Miss America pageant are not going to "suffer", both will be fine. Why criticize her achievements in that way? I'm sure there are plenty of men in the military who juggle that with other aspects of their lives, perhaps even a second job.

She is an excellent role model, and it's actually great publicity for the USAF and Miss America.

I'll support this war fighter as Miss America! Let her fly in to events in a USA fighter jet and let American girls think about all that they could be!

Let Taylor Swift top that--I don't think so!  If we want our girls to be somebody, show they what they can do! I'm all in!  Money well spent from tax dollars!

She is a wonderful role model for young girls and women. I too wish her all the best in life.

On another note I had not thought about the Miss America pageant in years. I wasn't aware that it still existed. Is it on television? Many many years ago it came on Saturday night I think in the fall. It was must see television with a large bowl of popcorn. I miss that.

Women have been juggling more than one job for centuries and we we do it well.

She will be fine.
