I used to feel that way too but honesty, watching and listening to the beautiful and accomplished women last night changed my mind somewhat. They all have done wonderful things and have way more to offer than their beauty. Why not use all of their gifts and avenues to accomplish the things in life that they seek?
Then why do they need beauty contests? They can be just as accomplished without having their conformation rated in a swimsuit like in a horse show. It's a relic of the olden days. More pointless these days than outrageous, in my opinion.
@Porcelain Completely agree.

@Bridgegal I agree with you about their accomplishments, but I think there must be a better way to do it.

My first thought was she looked like Jennifer Hudson

Because I assume that winning Miss Universe or even being a finalist will open doors and opportunities that they wouldn't have otherwise.

No harm intended to the OP at all.
I should be used to this, if not over it, at least resigned to it,
but the whole concept makes me cringe.
😑

@Bridgegal, that is a wrong that should be addressed rather than perpetuated.

Then that's really sad for them.

I think she resembles Lupita Nyong'o.

Women who are beautiful enough to be in a beauty pageant are lucky but I always feel for the ones who don't win. That can be heartbreaking to them.
And too bad for so many who don't think they even have a chance because they are not pretty enough.
What I don't like about pageants is something we should definitely put in the past. That is judging ourselves and others on their looks and to get in a pageant, you have to have them.
We can see this all over though, in the competition to look the most perfect or outrageous in awards ceremonies, music videos, etc etc.
