Re: Mischief and mayhem at Crufts

dogs shows along with horse racing and greyhound racing should all be things of the past IMO. We bred animals to either "work" for us or be our wonderful companions, not win ribbons and money for the owners.

I'm done with P.C. Just say what you mean and mean what you say. It's easier.

Now now. Let's not disparage Mexican watermelon. We eat it all summer long!....I saw an elephant painting video. Reminded me of John Nagy. The elephant was terrific. Made a graceful and symmetrical tree with beautiful foliage and grass in a supple combination of colors. Thailand I think. But the elephant minder, though not then using it, had THE HOOK in his hand. A tragedy

AKC had it's place..........it was meant to protect the standards of the breed, to make sure the work they were being bred for they had the confirmation to actually do...........but as with just about everything..........time warps the intent........money can be made so things get exaggerated because on that last litter of pups, that's what sold..................sad case anyway you look at it......................................raven

This gave me a giggle. I'm sure you meant conformation, which is a word for the structure of the animal. Not too many dogs around here go through Confirmation ceremonies or speak out to confirm something! {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Raven, they want to confirm they have the best conformation or their conformation might be unconfirmed which would make them nonconformists. Wink

Re: Mischief and mayhem at Crufts

I have been longing to adopt another dog but not sure if I want to give a senior dog a home or start with a puppy. Since I have cats, a puppy might be better because typically they haven't had time to develop any issues yet, but then again an older dog in a shelter is so sad.

I just checked petfinder in my area and there are 152,000 dogs up for adoption. I could just cry.

Re: Mischief and mayhem at Crufts

The perfect age for adoption is about 18 months. They are ripe for learning, over the chewing stage and are often housebroken or are at least easy to housebreak.
