@Laura14  Michelle C is planning to become a Realtor.

Conrad was her boyfriend although the relationship was mostly by text.  thousands of txts not just hi whats up.   they both talked of suicide and she may have been influenced by the Netflix show 13 Reasons Why.

yes Conrad was depressed but she disregaded a moral duty to save his life.  its just a punch in the face to the kid's family for her to get off with a slap on the wrist.

odds are she won't serve any time at all and/or the case will be overturned on appeal.  her right to free speech was imperiled (ACLU) and because MA has no law i place re:  assisted suicide.

she will have plenty of time to study for the real estate exam

@CatsyCline  The Netfix series didn't come out until after Conrad's suicide.

The book came out around 2007.

@Cakers3.    yes someone else pointed this out i don't know much about this show and i had recalled  the Netflix show was mentioned in the CBS show 48 hours and an episode of Glee dealing with suicide was mentioned because she paraphrased a few lines from that episode into her texts

Good!  She has a look in her eyes like she's a little off center.  I'm glad she got some hard time instead of just a slap on the hands.

@Kachina624,SeaMaiden, Being in shock form the reality of the proceedings would show through the eyes.

He, however, had been treated for mental issues.

@ECBG  Carter had been treated at McLean Hospital and was taking Celexa, an antidepressant,  for impulse control issues, a fact that was used in her defense

@CatsyCline,Thank you very much.  IMO, she's still responsible for knowing right and wrong, and has seen the evening news showing crimes and court cases how many times?

@CatsyCline  I'm sorry-I saw your post and responded about the Netflix issue.  I didn't realize it had been pointed out already after I had posted.Woman Embarassed

The Glee situation is quite different, too.

Re: Michelle Carter To Get 2 1/2 Years In Texting Case

I think whether she is mentally unstable or not she was on a power trip to see of she could actually get him to commit suicide.

To show just how unfeeling she is, she texted Conrad's sister right after she ordered him to get back in the truck, and asked if she knew where Conrad was. I guess trying to imply her innocence and playing the worried "girlfriend."

Now there is a civil suit against the familyand that does not bother me in the least.

Now I am right with you on the civil suit.  This, in my opinion, is where you get your justice.  I still don't absolve him of his actions but being a morally reprehensible teenager should have some financial consequences which is all you get in civil proceedings.

Although, I'm not sure what good a judgement does when she is judgement proof.   Unless she is sitting on a source of income from somewhere, the family is going to have a nice worthless piece of paper to frame and it still won't bring their loved one back.

At some point, they have to move past the anger and leave her to other people, places (probably hot), and things (karma).

Re: Michelle Carter To Get 2 1/2 Years In Texting Case

What a terrible shame.  Just a phone call away to alert 911 to rush to him and save his life.  I wouldn't be too happy if I were her parents.  The only thing I can think of re: exactly why a person would do this is that maybe she has been playing some sort of 'living on the edge' fantasy games on one of her gadgets, and then became 'caught up' in it all.  What was fantasy became her way of thinking in real life.  I just can't imagine anyone other than a psych*tic murd*rer (such as on Criminal Minds) prompting another person to harm himself in this way.  Interesting psychological incident, imo.  Interesting, yet very tragic.  Civilized people usually automatically rush, in some way, to the aid of others.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

The judge did order the she cannot profit in any way from this crime with books, movies, interviews etc. I think that was a good move on his part.

As it showed in the 20/20 last night, she had another boy she was interested in. And popular girls she wanted to befriend and be favored by them. So as sick as it is she used this to do so. She organized events to memorialize him, and proclaimed that she wanted to work on suicide prevention! as a cause. Can you imagine. She thought all this would gain her sympathy and popularity. Yes I'm sure she had her own mental health and medication issues, but she still had the where with all to organize this campaign.

She harassed this boy for months and months and months on end about why he hadn't killed himself yet. It's all there in the texts. She wasn't just reacting to him in an unhelpful inappropriate way. And it was hardly just a few "misguided" texts.
