They generally withdraw the sedation slowly. It can be a process.
This may not be either good or bad at this point.
The real test comes when the sedation is light enough or gone to determine if she breathes on her own and regains consciousness.
May not be telling much at this time.

This is so true. This is exactly how it goes. It took a couple of attempts before they could successfully pull all the tubes on DH 2 yrs. ago. Even after the 2nd attempt ( which was successful and he acknowledged us for the first time (we could tell he knew who we were) they had to sedate him again so he wouldn't hurt himself. So let's not give up hope. I didn't find out until much later that his chances were only 4 in 100. I'm glad I didn't know those numbers early on. There needs to be hope until one knows otherwise.
That sounds like my situation... the emergency doctor was not very encouraging. It's a very very scary time for the family. And all you can do is wait.

This is my originally post, and for some of you the word "slowly" seems to not be registering in your mind in my post!!!!!
The problem is there is too much speculation and too much incorrect news being reported and then being reported more incorrectly on this board.
It was reported somewhere that the weaning of Joan off life support was supposed to have begun and was to be completed today, not just started today. I think that is where some of the confusion might be coming in.
We have people posting articles from rag magazines and taking them as the gospel truth and now we have people speculating about what went on, how this happened and insinuating Melissa has a lawsuit. I cannot believe Melissa would even be thinking about such a thing at this time.
The fact is, no one really knows what is going on and the only person I would take any news from is Melissa. I really don't understand why people feel the need to run to this board and report everything.
They can't possibly know days ahead of time how long weaning life support will take - it depends upon how the patient is tolerating the weaning.

The latest report from the local NBC reporter standing outside the hospital was the statement from Melissa Rivers. There was nothing more about any medical procedures or treatments that may be taking place.
She mentioned that yesterday they were told about gradually bringing her out of the medically induced. Today no one mentioned anything about it.

I think that everything that is being ""reported"" is pure speculation at this point. I don't believe any of it...except that she is in the medically induced coma.
I pray that she pulls thru this.
I think her ""people"" need to make some type of official statement (not that they owe us anything) to stop all the speculation....but I'm sure they are withholding information due to the business aspect of it.(

I'm so very upset about Joan's situation. Hopefully, she will have a quick, normal recovery. All we can do is wish, hope, and pray.

It must be difficult for Melissa and family............Can you imagine all of the many photographers and news reporters and staff asking her a million questions as she enters and leaves the hospital.........Sometimes it's better to not comment at all, and just walk through the crowds. At least, that's what I would do.

With the proliferation of threads filled with speculation, I've avoided posting on them until now. I even stopped responding to the one I started (which simply directed everyone to the QVC Team blog post, where everyone could add their prayers and thoughts) because I didn't want my thread to become a part of it.
If we look at the facts, very little has been officially released. To me, those 2 or 3 official statements directly issued by the family should be enough, and patience and prayer should be our response.
It bothers me that the public thinks they have a right to dissect every detail and share every rumor about a celebrity when something so distressing is taking place in that person's family. I know, they're in the public eye, but that doesn't stop me from wishing we wouldn't be so invasive in a time of anguish. Where's our humanity, compassion, empathy? I'm not much of a celebrity follower, but I keep remembering the film clips and photos of Joan's grandson, Cooper, and how much love he seems to have for her -- something about the way he looks at her, and the way they interact.
It breaks my heart. I continue to pray for them.
