I am beginning to think Melissa may have a real lawsuit and this may open a whole can of worms and hopefully bringing this out to the general public. Also the use of CRNA(certified registered nurse anesthesiologists) instead of Anesthesiologist's might be something to know before going under.
CRNA is not the issue! MD's always want to go here because they feel it's "their" territory not a CRNA. MD's are very territorial and this has been their cry for years & years & years.
We've all heard MD's denounce Nurse Practitioners as encroaching on "their" territory. An old song they keep singing.
Absolutely. With any surgery that either my own children or any member of my family had... when I had the choice of a CRNA, I chose the CRNA. Most CRNAs that I know are extremely talented & in many cases more fastidious than anesthesiologists.

This is my originally post, and for some of you the word "slowly" seems to not be registering in your mind in my post!!!!!
The problem is there is too much speculation and too much incorrect news being reported and then being reported more incorrectly on this board.
It was reported somewhere that the weaning of Joan off life support was supposed to have begun and was to be completed today, not just started today. I think that is where some of the confusion might be coming in.
We have people posting articles from rag magazines and taking them as the gospel truth and now we have people speculating about what went on, how this happened and insinuating Melissa has a lawsuit. I cannot believe Melissa would even be thinking about such a thing at this time.
The fact is, no one really knows what is going on and the only person I would take any news from is Melissa. I really don't understand why people feel the need to run to this board and report everything.
They can't possibly know days ahead of time how long weaning life support will take - it depends upon how the patient is tolerating the weaning.
This is so true. In DH's case he became rather combative and would have pulled everything out.... so they would bring him out and then give him something to settle him. He had to have his arms tied down. All situations are a little different and you really can't go by what happened to someone else.

Taking notes. A certified registered nurse anesthesiologist is more talented than a doctor whose specialty is anesthesiology.

Her personality, her jokes, her stories of family. ....... And in the last many years, Joan' s red carpet commentary and her own Fashion Police show have revealed that Joan' s own interest in celebrity gossip is as avid as most of her public. Also, in the last several years, mom and daughter produce and star in a personal reality show on WEtv. "Joan and Melissa" has been VERY personal, very revealing and almost no-holds barred. Her little grandson has been featured in several episodes. Melissa's love life, good and very bad, has been delved into. Joans busy life, her pubic appearances and her private doings with friends and family have been laid bare. In one episode, Joan was about to undergo another cosmetic procedure. For some reason, she was more nervous than usual, and there were many emotional hospital scenes between her and Melissa before and after. Lots of "if this surgery doesn't go well...." Lots of emotion, lots of tears. People remember those things, people get attached. Joan and Melissa have lived their lives VERY publicly. Gosh, they even starred as themselves in a fictionalized movie about the aftermath of Edgars death -- their estrangement, the accusations, the reconciliation...........Other than a few internet trolls here and there, I've seen only love and concern toward Joan on these boards, and I am fine with that.
This is such a nicely worded explanation of the public's attachment to the Rivers women. Sure most people don't know them personally, but I think you are right about the love and concern and how it came to be. There is endless speculation that is totally a waste of time, but I agree with you. I think people are interested and concerned.

Hi, Joey Heatherton.
This is a very thoughtful post. You showed me a different way to think about this, and I appreciate it.

Hi Noel! Of ye of such faith.
I don't really know. lol So much depends on the type of barbiturate they used, and the dosage. Some of the meds have longer half lives than others, so they take longer to clear. I am not sure what type of monitoring technique they use there, most standard is a monitor with a continuous EEG & the nurses evaluate that reading to go for an optimal number of bursts suppression by titrating the med. So, hard to say exactly how much med it was taking to obtain that EEG pattern.
But at the very least, it is a gradual process & can take several days. And during this process they are evaluating the ability of the patient to breathe or assist the respirator.
