I was visiting some friends after a weekend wedding in Milwaukee, WI. I volunteered to do the grocery shopping in the afternoon yesterday. What a mistake. A bearded man in an electric wheelchair cart barreled into me at full speed , laughed and sped away. The handle of the grocery cart that I was using slammed into my arm and by bedtime, when I could check it out, I had developed a HUGE dark bruise, the biggest and darkest that I have ever seen. I called them a few minutes ago and told the about the incident that I reported before I left the store. They could not care less, when I suggested that they lower the speed on the carts and/or get a drivers license so that if it happens to any other person there is some recourse. This food chain is obviously out only to stuff their pockets and not care about customer safety. If you shop there, steer clear of the wheelchair carts. There will be no Christmas tree in our home this year as my husband is out of town until the 24th and I cannot risk getting hurt lifting it. I told Meijer that as well, and they had nothing to say. If I return to Wisconsin, and grocery shop, it will be at Pick n Save, Woodmans and possibly Festival foods.
I know I will get blasted for my post, but I am already disgusted by the event, so negative comments won't phase me.

What exactly did you expect them to do?

I shop at Meijers all the time and have never had any problems. This person probably acts like this no matter where they are.

This could happen any where, just a angry person.

If possible, the store should adjust the speed on these motorized carts. After all, if you or I were zipping down the aisle with a conventional cart, someone would tell us to slow down so we didn't hurt anyone. DH used to work with a young man who used a motorized wheelchair in the office. His supervisor had to counsel him for going down the aisles too fast. He had several near misses that could have hurt someone. He was always apologetic, but didn't slow down until he was told he'd be reprimanded if he wasn't more careful.

I suppose I would have liked them to at least feign compassion and listen to my suggestions. They did neither. Like I said, I expect Negative Nellies to blast me. What if it had happened to you??????????????????????????????

No one blasted you . We just stated the obvious

Well as far as they know you are just someone claiming to have been injured. That sounds like someone looking for money. Given your tone here I can see why they would not want to engage in a conversation with you. You claim to have reported the incident when it happened, did you point out this person to them so they could address it then and there?
Oh and FYI grocery store carts a designed to go 2 - 4 miles per hour depending on the weight on person/merchandise. Not sure how much slower your expect them to go.

I shop at Meijer frequently. Although I don't want to generalize people but those people riding in the carts act as if they own the store and the aisles. They constantly zoom out in from of me all the time and block the aisles. Never once have I heard a sorry or do they respond when you say excuse me.
I agree you have a right to complain to the management after all you were injured in their store with their equipment.

How are they to know that you aren't lying and just looking for a huge payday??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
If the brusie is so bad as to prevent you from putting up a Christmas tree, did you go to the ER to make sure that you weren't more seriously injured????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
If no, why not???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
