people don't understand when they steal like this and it goes on for a long time that store will just close up, therefore, we all lose because of the actions of some.  We end up paying for the shoplifters

I don't know of any other retailer that stops people leaving the store to ask for receipts.  LEGALLY those employees cannot demand to see your receipt.   I just read an article about that practice being challenged somewhere.   Huh.

In our area, we have Sam's Club and BJ's that you pay a membership for a year to buy in bulk.

If we go to the store and pay for the items, load them in the cart and go to the exit door, there is always someone standing there to check your receipt.  Neither DH nor I have a problem with that.

@Tinkrbl44  In my neck of the woods, all BJ's have receipt checkers.  As far back as I can remember, they've always had them.  I have been shopping at BJ's since the 80's when they first opened in the town I lived in.

They've always had a "store employee" at the end of every "self" checkout.

Same here with Sam's.  They have self-checkout but I never use it.  I was there last month and I had purchased 4 packages of chicken along with a bunch of other items.  The chicken was sold by weight, of course, so not all packages were the same price.  The checker looked at my receipt and then did what most of them do - thumb through a few items, glance at the receipt again, and send you on your way.  This checker said "wait - YOU didn't ring up something right."  I asked what she meant.  She said "you had 4 chicken purchases and YOU rang up the same item twice but failed to put the actual amount of that "other" package. YOU rang it up wrong."  I had to let her know that *I* did not ring up anything.  I waited in line and the Sam's employee rang up my purchases.

It was a difference of 9 cents but I had to drive my cart back to the Customer Service area, wait in line, explain everything, and pay 9 cents.

I am not AT ALL saying that the door checkers are not necessary.  I firmly believe they are and, even though the Sam's clerk's error made my stay there an extra 10 minutes, I was glad that they were doing their job.

Your right. Don't bother those of us who have nothing to be guilty about

if it bothers the 'woke' folks then they better not make themselves targets law or not.

Stuff like that gets around, people learn who are the thieves.

That's just plain disgusting.  Hope they catch her, but bet they won't.

@proudlyfromNJ In San Francisco, for one. They don't prosecute shoplifters who steal less than $950 worth of merchandise. Nice, huh.

@SharkE @HisElk1 About greeter and checking receipts, not in my grocery store as I said, but in Costco, yes. We only go there a few times a year for bulk buys. I’m not sure what is bothering woke folks or whatever. And we don’t patronize the Walmart which is about ten miles away.
