Robin Williams had Lewy body dementia, which is one of the most horrific diseases possible. He died by suicide and had no illegal drugs or alcohol in his system. The medication’s that did show up on toxicology were at therapeutic levels that he was taking for his condition.

Robin Williams had Lewy Body Dementia.  LBD can cause hallucinations and cognitive decline associated with dementia.  He had a family.   No one knows what he was experiencing (seeing/thinking) at the time he chose to hang himself.

Very sad that he died. I thought that when people said they are clean and sober, that meant they were off all drugs, not doing some sort of drug to stay off drugs. I personally do not know anyone who is or was addicted to anything, so I don’t know much about this. He went to rehab so many times that I have to wonder how well those programs work and/or how badly he wanted to get off the drugs and alcohol. I know the Friends family all knew he was using. But I am amazed at how well he functioned and acted and was so funny on the show, all the while struggling with his addictions.

I have never heard of the drug Ketamine before.  Why was he being given infusions of it?

Also, I thought Robin Williams also suffered from Depression.  He had such amazing talent.  I was very saddened after learning of his health problems and subsequent death.

That is sad.  I heard on a news reports that he once said that he hated Ketamine because it made him feel like he was dying.  Oh, my -- this was so sad.

I have had several loved ones suffer with drug or alcohol addiction throughout my life. I’m not going to act like I know everything, but do consider myself well educated on the subject. Many who suffer from this affliction have underlying mental health conditions. Many who go through treatment, relapse. It rarely takes one stint in rehab to conquer this disease. It does not discriminate which is why one can seem to have everything but still suffer from this. The saying that most must hit rock bottom is so true. Rock bottom is different for everyone. Unfortunately, some people’s rock-bottom is death. It’s an awful disease and I have empathy for those struggling.

@Greeneyedlady21 - thanks. I was too appalled to respond to that post last night.  I wanted to think about my response overnight.

Empathy shouldn't be such a hard thing to muster, but yet..... And the comment "some overpaid actor".  Like he was a nothing. He was a human being, just like the rest of us.  His parents lost their child.  On these boards,  a recurring theme is the intense dislike for anyone who may be in the arts or have money.

@gidgetgh Yes, the complete devaluing of human life is disturbing and disgusting. To take hatred to that extent that one finds it necessary to make a comment like that, well perhaps one might take a serious look in the mirror. For starters

Matthew Perry had family and friends who loved him very much.The fact that he made lots of money and became famous from Friends is irrelevant. He suffered from addiction and said that when he died he wanted people to first talk about what he tried to do to help others who also suffered from that, not about his role on Friends.
