Matthew Cowles, the Soap Opera Actor Husband of Christine Baranski, Dies at Age 69

Soap opera star Matthew Cowles died at age 69 on Thursday, May 22. Cowles was married to Good Wife actress Christine Baranski for more than 30 years.

A two-time Daytime Emmy nominee, Cowles was best known for his role as Billy Clyde Tuggle on the soap opera All My Children.

His manager Tsu Tsu Stanton tweeted about the loss on May 23, writing, "#Matthew Cowles passed away on 5/22.I had the pleasure of being his manager. He was a very gifted and kind man who loved life and everyone."

Cowles had roles in 2000's Nurse Betty and 2010's Shutter Island, and in addition to his time on All My Children, he spent time on Oz, Lonesome Dove, and The Bold and the Beautiful.

So sorry for her loss........I have enjoyed their acting for many years but did not realize that the two were married. May he rest in peace......God bless...

Billy Clyde Tuggle...one of the best soap villains ever when I used to watch.

Loved, loved loved Billy Clyde. Was just reading his bio from AMC, this sure took me back down memory lane -

He was a fun, nutty, "creep" that you just had to have fun with. Loved Billy Clyde! Blessings to his beautiful, witty wife and their children.

He was just the best ""creep"" every! So sad to learn he's gone. It's nice to see they had such a long marriage. Love her acting too.

OMG - I DO remember that character!! Back in my latter years in HS and early college years, I would watch soaps - starting with GH, but it crept back to All My Children Smiley Happy

That character gave me the creeps!!

He was really good as an actor and may he rest in peace.
