It’s advised NOT to answer unknown phone calls period. They can record your voice especially if you answer Yes or No to their questions. Let the calls go to voicemail. And use a default voice mail, not one with your name and voice.

Identify theft is a priority for Law Enforcement, but often the criminals are in other countries and know how to transfer what they steal so that it’s almost impossible to track.

YES definitely Freeze your credit with the credit bureaus. Nobody wants to get a surprise new car loan or new home mtg. letter in the mail !!

I received a letter the other day saying my information may of been comprised with the medical billing company.  I immediately put a freeze on my credit and fraud alert.  It's a matter of time before they figure out how to bypass the credit freeze.  It is very scary.

@Pezzie

(sigh).  Yet another reason to move to a cave in Serbia.  Thanks for the warning.

Appreciate the notice however I don't see anything in the news today about a "massive data breach".

Hi! @ahoymate 🤗

Google it. It might not be on the news today since it didn’t happen today. It’s been on the local and world news for many weeks now. 🥴

Sadly, this is our new norm! My bank credit monitoring service has been notifying me of several breaches where my sensitive info was compromised! I too, put a freeze on my credit and locked my credit cards! One occurred when I was in the hospital several months ago, and a nursing assistant got hold of my purse before my daughter took it home later that night.  It was obvious it hand been rifled through with a few pages in my passport damaged as well. Unfortunately, this IS our new norm, and we must remain vigilant as possible, because businesses are sometimes SLOW to inform us.😐

Honestly, I think we're expecting too much in the way of security.

Sooner or later, EVERYONE gets hacked.

We put a HUGE amount of our personal information out there and expect no one will ever have access to it.

Really?
