What I don't understand is, what has changed in the past 2 decades? We have always had guns, but, we have not always had this sort of crime.. I should know, because I am older than dirt

Most families had guns for hunting. Some had them for protection, but ,growing up, I would say more people had hunting guns, than pistols. My dad had a deer rifle and so did all of my uncles. This was generally  the case among hunters

We never had this type of crime..What has changed?

Dare I mention the name of the organization that supports gun ownership.

Florida has a long dark history and reputation because of their gun laws.  Florida is always in the news for some gun related matter.  Florida is on a list of states that I do not care if I ever set foot in.

@Jazzygurl  I'm still trying to figure out why you thought Florida's Stand Your Ground Law had anything to do with this shooting.

He wasn't defending himself and he commited suicide.

I guess since you didn't answer the first time I won't get an answer this time, either.

NO( it will become political) and I don't think that it is fair to make unkind remarks about Fla. We have wonderful people posting from that state. I like and respect them..As I have said before there is enough blame to go around @Jazzygurl

You're right.

Lots of platitudes, over and over and over and over again.

@QueenDanceALot@suzyQ3

Let me add my 2 cents here-people yammer about mental health.  Who will determine who is mentally ill and who will enforce therapy on them?

The recent tragdy at the Tree of Life Synagogue was fueled by his hatred of Israel and anybody who supports Israel, which includes the highest person in you all know where.  Yet that person was blamed.

Foolishness designed to stir the pot which has already overflowed into a mess of misinformation and the inability for some to move on.  Do something construction instead of parroting what you THINK is what you should be doing.

This is the crux of the problem-it is very easy for people here and for talking heads to point fingers where the accusations do not belong.  We've had mass shootings that horrified us at Columbine.  Yet nobody dared put out an accusation.

When you have calls for murder-MURDER- of higher ups what do people think is going to happen?  The uninformed who believe everything they hear, see, read frighten me more than all this bad parenting excuses.

Gun control being used as a fear tactic.  We have gun control.  If it isn't up to some kind of standard, vote for those who would up the ante.  But it won't happen anytime soon if it hasn't happened for the past 20 years or so.

Whether a state has more "lax" standards or not doesn't guarantee a shooting will or will not happen.

We have a generational problem with guns; it didn't happen overnight.

@Cakers3

I know about working across both sides, I see you say you do.  But, respectfully I ask you to look at your words, because words do matter.

Yammer, blame, foolishness, finger pointing, inability, uninformed, parroting, don’t feel constructive to me.  If you say that about others, won’t they think the same of you?

I know we have a multi- general problem with guns.  I’m still hoping to hear constructive plans somewhere instead of blame and shame.

Very sad to say this , but there are no answers it seems, more will happen as has, no one wants to put people first from being killed.

@Drythe  I would never shake hands with a person who calls out for murder.

If you believe that there are no uninformed people in this world, think again.

And if you believe that there are no people who only quote their favorite outlet, think again.

I am not asking anybody to agree with me; nor would I sit down with somebody and call them uninformed.  I would do my absolute best to hear their side and try to present mine.

I think you are looking for something in me that isn't there.  This is how I roll; my words here won't change the world but my actions OUTSIDE will.  That's all that matters.

I stand by what I said.  Take what you like and leave the rest.

@QueenDanceALot  I disagree.  How does one measure the blame?  Is there a scorecard or some other mathematical equation or statistical analysis we can use?

Our perceptions certainly influence our "truth".

Let's agree to disagree on this one.
