I started watching this for two reasons - I was curious, and Jamie from The Bachelor (Ben's season) was on it. So of course I did some research to find out about the show and if it is really what it seems to be. I don't believe any of the reality shows are really REAL! I do think there will be some twists in this one, but I also believe most of it is what it seems to be.
Here's the website about it: Married at First Sight
Three couples are matched by four experts after a lengthy selection process and will not meet or know anything about each other until they meet at the altar. They will get married, go on a honeymoon, and live together for a total of five weeks. Then they can decide if they want to stay married or get divorced. We will watch the whole process. The first episode was on a few nights ago (I watched it On Demand). I like the couples they selected! And I think one of the "twists" is one of the grooms was made up to look less attractive than he really is. The woman he was matched with made a point about saying how much personality mattered to her over looks - and then she saw him at the altar!
And here's a question: If your son or daughter came to you and wanted you to support them on this "experiment," would you?
I discussed this with DD. I would not be crazy about her going on the show, but I would support her in whatever she chose to do!

Hey, I think everyone considering marriage should have to go through something like that!
Obviously the marriages won't be made legal until after the 5 week decisions if then so what does it really hurt? The bigger question would be 'would you open yourself up to being on a reality show?'

According to the show they ARE legal! The couple is legitimately married. Should they decide they don't want to stay together, they can't get an annulment - they have to get a divorce! I agree with you - there's got to be something else going on, right?

Even if they are legal it's just a piece of paper until you start co-mingling funds, credit, etc. so an immediate divorce is usually just a simple procedure.
Hmmm...now I'm thinking, what if they married, split after a week and one of the spouses was in an accident or something of that nature? Liability could be a risk but then I guess that is what a legal separation agreement would be for.
I don't know....maybe I'll watch an episode or maybe not. Right now I'm just sitting here avoiding getting dressed to go to a funeral.

Becki - It's on the former Biography network, now called "FYI"
BecauseCats - He doesn't really look like that. They were trying to prove a point.
kaybee - I'm sorry for your loss.
