Did I miss something? Don doesn't have a job right now and he didn't get another one? He hasn't told his wife that he is not working? He said he had to catch the red eye and go back to work.

I don't remember her going to LA to get a job. What is going on...

I'm guessing (and will later read a recap to fill myself in), but Megan quit her soap job in NYC when Don said they were moving to California. Then he got fired/told to step down when he had that breakdown. Not clear how many months have passed, but has been a few. So, I assume that, in his period of trying to make amends, he still moved to California in order for Megan to pursue her career (plus, it's a renewal for him too.) But, being a man from that time, he can't admit that he doesn't have a job yet and is still pretending to be something that he is not. I think it's unclear if Freddie is giving him money for his Cyrano act or if he is living off of their savings. But, the NYC apartment is clearly suffering as he can't afford (?) to get the door to the balcony fixed.

I guess I was a little disappointed in the show because it didn't really show what happened after the last episode, but just kind of picked up as if nothing happened to Don.

I didn't notice this thread (so exhausted -- too much to do lately). I apologize. I'll copy what I wrote a separate thread here.

"MAD MEN" HAS RETURNED. DID ANYONE NOTICE THE...

..can of Folger's coffee that Peggy was holding in the break room when her old love was there? Hand Stuever, TV critic of the Washington Post, wondered if Megan will fall prey to a Manson "Family"-type attack. Her new digs in L.A. are remote, but was a seed planted with that coffee can?

If you recall, one of those slaughtered along with actress Sharon Tate was Abigail Folger, the coffee heiress.

Interesting - I don't watch with that much detail, but do appreciate reading the comments from people who do. Not sure where that rumor got started, but I've seen it a few places. I actually like Megan and would rather she leave Don than be murdered.

I don't even remember Don saying they were moving to CA. I do remember Megan quitting her job though.

At the very end Don told that other guy that he was getting paid for the last few months.
It sounded like he was helping that guy get business on the side and I guess it was helping them both. Kind of weird tonight. I don't like Megan at all but I hope the coffee can reference didn't mean anything awful. They did make a point that the house was out in the middle of nowhere. Why was Megan sick, is she pregnant?

If it was freezing in the apartment why did Don have the door open other than it was broken. He is still getting paid, you would think he could afford to get it fixed. He didn't take up the offer of the girl on the plane. I hope next week explains more or is easier to understand.

That's why I read the recaps - helps fill in the blanks of things i miss! Actually, I must have turned away when Megan said she was sick! As for the Charles Manson thing, I believe I also saw a still photo of Megan in some t-shirt that they said was related to Manson as well. Like I said, I actually like Megan and hope this is just Weiner misdirecting his audience.

Anyways, I actually didn't watch last season when it aired and did a marathon over a few weekends many months after it ended; so my mind may be a little fresher. Doesn't mean I may miss a few things (and I just wiki'd to make sure I wasn't way off). Anyways, Don originally went to California to meet with Sunkist, but he really wasn't interested in the business because it went against another client of theirs (think Sunkist was Ted's agency, and Ocean Spray was Don's? and then they merged and the businesses were too similar). But in the final episode, Sunkist was going to give them more business and the company was talking about sending somebody out west. All last season, Don had been spiraling downward and, after a night in jail (I don't remember this; got from wiki), Don must have had a revelation and decided he was going to go to California. But, then Don imploded during the Hershey's pitch, and he was asked to take a leave of absence. Megan had already quit her successful soap job.

I took that the comment about getting paid a few more months to be severance that was coming to an end. Of course, now he's maintaining this charade of being bi-coastal and owning two expensive homes - so his expenses are greater. I think the broken door is meant to signify that he isn't doing nearly as well as he wants people to think. Of course, Matt Weiner may also have some deep symbolism to that too or it is meant to foreshadow something or other.

The way the Manson family enters Megan's digs?
