Not surprised by this news.  I don't get excited about Macy's coupons anymore.  There are always too many exclusions on the back of the coupon.

I haven't spent a penny in Macy's since they wrote to Texas Governor Rick Perry* and asked him to veto a Lilly Ledbetter fair pay act for women in Texas to make it easier for women to sue over unfair pay outside of a federal court. That made it pretty clear that Macy's does not respect me and your story just furthers enforces that for me.

I don't interpret this as anti-women in any way.  Macy's is a for-profit business and not doing very well recently at that.   It makes sense that it would want to deal with lawsuits only in federal court; cheaper than sending Macy's lawyers all over the place to defend suits (i.e. travel and hotel expenses and getting familiar with other court rules and procedures).  I don't read anything else into it than it being purely a financial business decision on Macy's part.

I think it was just yesterday that I read an article about Macy's opening these outlet stores. The article seemed to indicate they are in the process of doing that while closing 40 stores.

I worked in retail for years, and it really doesn't make sense to me to take all the expense to send things to a separate outlet store (shipping, man hours, rent, utilities etc. of the outlet) just to attempt sell off what people didn't want on sale in the regular stores. Mark it down till it sells out in the regular store, or sell in lots to the secondary buyers.

Over handling merchandise that you get such a low price for, doesn't make good sense.

I stopped shopping at Macy's a few years ago.

Too many exclusions on their coupons.

Could never use coupons on clearance items unless it was advertised and then, what was haning on the racks there should have been priced for a dollar.

Macys used to have great clearance deals. the were in competition with Filene's.   i recall getting a dress for $1.79 and it was a nice dress too. they were happy to give price adjustments too.  then when Filenes went out of biz  Macys launched specialty departments with capsule collections and the clearance prices with coupon were still good.  then they started pulling the EDV baloney, no coupon on EDV

i rarely go there now . i think the Bar III line turned me off. the clothes look nice but just fell apart after a washes and the INC line which was my HG for many years is filled with polyester garments these days and that viscose that stretches out.

Thank you all for you comments.  I have been shoppig at Macy's for 20 years and I guess I have been spoil.   In the past I have been able to rack up on clearance clothes for my entire family.  You still can use coupons on sale items but not clearance.  When I was in there today they had racks and racks of winter clothes but all were on clearance.

and now today I read that BB&B is in trouble for always offering the 20% off coupons. Shoppers are not buying until they et their coupons, But those had exclusions too, you could not use them on vaccums, Vitamix, Keurig and other expensive items,

However one day I went in there to buy one thing and I had the coupon, there was a girl in front of me who had a shopping basket full of items and apparently had collected coupons from everyone she knew. she paid for each item individually with 1 coupon and I think she had almost 50 items rung up singly with the coupons after all was said and done. Since there were no other registers open, I had to stand there for my 1 item.

I'm done with P.C. Just say what you mean and mean what you say. It's easier.

I always have a bunch of coupons for BB&B because they take expired coupons.  You do not have to ring the items separately.  At our local store they ring the entire order then scan all your coupons.

Re: Macy's Last Act

Try Gap online. They have HUGE markdowns on sale items, and you  can use multiple offers. I got 2 nice sweaters, two ponte dresses, jeans, a winter scarf and 2 pair of socks for $68.
