@Yardlie

You're welcome!

I found it while grieving the loss of my beloved Sheltie and every time I felt overwhelmingly sad, I'd read it and it did help me feel better, at that moment, anyway. I never could find an author, just 'unknown'.

BTW, excellent post you made above (#20)!

My doodle was only 9 years old. He had a tumor on his heart that burst and he died within hours. He was my best friend and like a child to me. I have an autoimmune disease and have had multiple back surgeries so I am at home almost all the time. My sweet dog never left my side, even waiting on the floor outside the shower door for me when I showered. He always looked at me with love, and listened all day while I chattered on to him! He was funny and I miss him so much. It hurts that he's gone, but I know I was blessed to have had him at all. My husband would like me to get another dog in a few months. Are there any particular dog breeds or mixes you would recommend that are small to medium sized? One that's lovable and sweet and loyal? Thank you for listening and for your advice.

I am so sorry for your loss.......yes...they are like our babies and love us unconditionally.  I had a minature poodle and a toy poodle both who were loving and dogs who once i walked into our house they were at my side......miss them still years later.

Re: MY BEAUTIFUL LABRADOODLE DIED

I am so sorry for your loss.  Most of us have felt that more times than we would like.

When you are ready, please go to your local animal/humane association and please conisder a senior dog.  They still have lots of life in them and are so wonderful.  Since they are the ones usually passed over, they are so grateful and excited to chosen.  Also, the staff should know the dog's temperment to help you make an informed decision--but keep in mind it will be how your heart feels when you know that you have picked the right dog for you.  You wil know as soon as you see him/her.

@KateinOK My heart hurts for you.  Those of us blessed enough to have the unconditional love of a furbaby had truly been given that gift from God. My thoughts and prayers are with you.  I know just the right bundle of joy will come into your life.  Please consider as @Plaid Pants2 and others have suggested and visit your local animal shelter!  @KingstonsMom  Absolutely beautiful poem. Brought tears to my eyes!

Blessings to all who post here today!Heart

Kate, my sincerest sympathy for the loss of your beloved doodle. May you find some comfort and peace in this poem.

Last Night
I stood by your bed last night; I came to have a peek.
I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you wiped away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour your coffee.
You were thinking of the many times your hand reached down to me.

I was with you at the shop today; your arms were getting sore,
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today; you tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you toward the house, you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you; I smiled and said, "It's me."

You looked so very, very tired and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you everyday,
to tell you with such certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew....
in the stillness of the evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over, I smile and watch you yawning
and say, "Goodnight, God Bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to meet you and we'll stand side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there's so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out....then come home to be with me

This is how I feel about my wonderful granddog, who lived with me the last part of his life here-that he is with me 24/7, he hasn't left, his spirit is here with me until we will be together againSmiley Happy

I am so sorry to hear about your dog.

We are looking to adopt a labradoodle. We are hoping to find a small one as neither of us can control a large dog. They, as you know, have the best traits of both breeds.

When the time is right your doggie will guide you to find a new friend.
