I got rid of cable about 4 years ago and haven't looked back. My pre-teen daughter hasn't either. We have Amazon Prime and Hulu so we stream a lot with a Roku. We have a leaf indoor antenna which allows us to get a TON of channels, including over-the-air HSN and QVC, over the free airwaves. I don't think I'd take cable back if they offered it to me for free. Too much of a hassle, especially when it storms. I now save about $1440/year, money that has much better places to go!

Comcast! The worst company!!!! Yes, if you commit to their "full" package they'll work with you. If not, they won't. I don't want their lousy phone service. It's bad enough I have to depend on them for internet & cable!

Also, we bought a Roku for $100.00 at Best Buy. We already paid 6.99 for Netflix and that is on the Roku along with Pandora, Hulu, Crackle and so many other channels. It is so worth the money. Check out the site. It can be a way of lowering your cable bill depending on what programs you like.
Show Time & HBO seldom ever have anything worth watching. I mean, Comcast gives you the worst station choices. I watch maybe 7 stations, and pay for lots more because of the way Comcast offers bundles of lousy stations. I HATE Comcast!!!!

We get just about everything here on Comcast, more channels than my sis has with Dish.

We have cable only with Comcast and they lowered our rates. We have our landline and internet through AT&T. I'm no fan of Comcast though. They do ok for us as long as they don't have to come to our house for a service call. That NEVER goes well.

I called Comcast a few days ago and the BEST they could do is $99 a month for the basic package bundle. I looked online and to cancel my package and try to just get internet is pretty expensive $69.95 a month. If I subscribe to Netflix or Hulu Plus I am adding more money money. At this point I feel like I am held captive to paying Comcast.

When we are at home in Fl we have basic cable included in our HOA fee and we don't add anything extra to it. There is so much to do in Fl. outside that we don't spend a lot of time watching TV anyway. When we are in Pa the basic cable is included in our camping fee - and we don't buy anything extra.
Here in Pa we don't get the Hallmark channel and some others I like so I do watch them on my computer - always a good alternative. I got a free app that picks up all the channels I am looking for, so why pay for extended cable service.

In Pa. we have a small local cable co for TV and internet service and they are wonderful. In Fl we have comcast - terrible. No comparison to the small, local co in pa. We use Verizon for internet and phone service in Fl - would not trust that to comcast.

We are in the process of an intention to either cut back our cable or end it. We will not bundle -- it's such a cheesy unfair method. I'd rather support our small ISP even at the $45 we are now paying for 5.45 speed. Add on the $16 approx. monthly cost of Netflix and Hulu puts us at nearly half the cost of what we've been paying for cable alone.
We still have some wiggle room to save money but not much. I think dumping cable entirely is the smartest thing to do if money is the main factor. All news is available online as is most everything.

Another thing that annoys me about cable and is evidenced here in this thread. That they will ""negotiate"" lower or continued low costs while other people who aren't asking are ripped off.
Only a fool wouldn't take advantage of this unfair practice but still it ought to be illegal to charge someone more just because they aren't calling. It makes users beggars.
