Re: Look what I bought today!

@DukeBlueNan cherry cake

2 1/2 cup flour

1 1/2cup sugar

3 1/2 tea baking powder.

1 tea salt

1/2 cup shortening

3/4 cup milk

1/4 cup cherry juice

1 tea. Vanilla

2 tea almond extract

4 egg whites

18 chopped cherries ( I use more)

Cream sugar and shortening, add the rest, alternate dry and wet ingredients, beat well

Bake 375 for 40-45 minutes  standard 9 inch round pan or sheet pan. Round pans reduce baking time

I think this tastes best several hours after it is made.

I just make a basic white frosting and add cherry juice to it

The cherry bread had lots of cherries, yum

Uh-oh, @gidgetgh.  Watch out.  Baking is addictive.

@tansy- I really don't get enjoyment from it. I can do it but it really doesn't interest me. And I won't eat The things. Just wanted to make this one for my husband.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I buy Dr. Oetker's brand baking powder in a box of 6 - .5 ounce packets.  I'm hoping that it stays fresher packaged this way.  I discovered that a tin of Clabber Girl baking powder had become inactive (stale) after using it to make banana bread.  The fact that it was 4 months past the "use by" date should have tipped me off.  I haven't done a lot of baking the last few years.

You need to store it in Lock 'n Lock
