Based on my recent "what common household items do you NOT own" thread.
I channeled my inner Martha Stewart this afternoon, I had to dig really deep to find her, and have a loaf of cherry bread baking in the oven.
I've never bought baking powder in my life. I have bought vanilla before.
To make this, I also had to buy a loaf pan, LOL.
Just making fun of myself a little.

@gidgetgh Oh, that sounds so delicious! I love cherries. I bet it will be good, let us know. Nothing stopping you now!

I buy Dr. Oetker's brand baking powder in a box of 6 - .5 ounce packets. I'm hoping that it stays fresher packaged this way. I discovered that a tin of Clabber Girl baking powder had become inactive (stale) after using it to make banana bread. The fact that it was 4 months past the "use by" date should have tipped me off. I haven't done a lot of baking the last few years.

@DukeBlueNan- I think this is going to be more like a cake instead of a bread. It's made in a loaf pan, but you use maraschino cherries. It's going to be sweet.
My husband has never gotten over Betty Crocker (or maybe it was Pillsbury) discontinuing his favorite Cherry Chip cake years ago so when I saw the recipe for this on Facebook, I thought I'd try it.

Sidebar: I didn't know that Kraft owns Calumet. Hmmm. I always have baking powder on hand, but I buy the 'aluminum-free' variety that is another brand.
Well, happy baking! ![]()

@chickenbutt- yeah, I saw the aluminum free choice but since I have never bought it before I didn't know which one to buy. It's like the first time I bought salt 100 years ago. I had no idea if I was supposed to buy iodized or plain. It took me a full 10 minutes to decide. I didn't want to go down that path again, LOL, so I went with the brand name I recognized.

And folks, we have a miracle. I can't make the glaze for about another hour. It has to be almost cool. My husband hid outside as I did the flip the bread out of the pan thing. He didn't want to be around if it didn't go so well. My husband is a very smart man.
