8 days in Sept in very hot weather (so no air conditioning). All my food spoiled. Some friends across town who had power offered to have me stay in their guest bedroom but since my battery backup for my home security system had also gone out (it wasn't meant to last for 8 days) I stayed home and toughed it out. I did go across town to see movies in air conditioned theaters a few times but that whole experience was miserable. Ahhh ... for the good old days when we could go to movie theaters...now just nostalgia. 😥
After those 8 miserable days and all the food spoilage a lot of my neighbors bought generators.

Probably back in 2003 when the entire grid of the east coast went out. It was many days but I don't remember how many. We live rural now and seem to have quite a few power outages. We invested in a whole house generator. It's paid off immensely!

Superstorm Sandy - 2012 - NYC
It was several days - can't recall how many.
No electricity - and when you are living on the 10th floor it's a really big issue! No way I could get up and down from the 10th floor. Management sent reps through the building to check tenants.
No water - because pumps are run by electric. Couldn't recharge phone battery. Landline was dead.
Thank goodness my stove is gas - so at least I was able to cook by candlelight! And - that I had a manual can opener. Evereything in fridge was spoiled.

2003 Ice storm....3 weeks without power, heat, water & it was rough but I stayed. 2012 finally installed a whole house generator, it was expensive but worth every $.

Last summer we had a tornado rip through our neighborhood and we were without power for more than a week. Fortunately we were staying at our beach house during the tornado and did not have to suffer with being without power. We did have to empty out the refrigerator (which was practically empty since we were staying at the beach for an extended period of time) and have a tree removed that fell in the front of our house onto our driveway.
I live less than a mile from Biden's house and it seems whenever we lose power at any other time, it is back on in a short period of time. Snow removal is also awesome.

We have occasionally lost power in a big monsoon storm, usually just a few minutes to a couple hours. Very fortunate here.
