Would that appeal to any of you? It looks, well to me it looks very hard and not anything I would care to do. Anyway, dh was watching a show on it earlier, and I looked at some blogs online. I guess they are livng off the grid, but the have some sort of electricity, as they are posting about it. Is this anything any of you would even want to try?
Edited to add, apparantly they use solar or wind energy for their electricity.
And some of these folks are wanting to raise their own food, animals to butcher.... all of it. That wouldn't work with me, I'm an animal lover, I get attached to the neighbors cows. And we try grow a garden every year, because we enjoy having fresh food in the backyard, but I shudder to think if I had to rely on anything out of the garden.
Just wondering what others think of this.

Now, at this stage of the game? NO!
But when I was young - had I'd had a partner who was very handy and worked as hard as I did? Yes, that would've appealed to me. ![]()

If they have electricy and are posting then they are not off the grid. They are doing what most of our families did years ago to survive and are proud of it.
Good for them, but they are not off the grid.
Could I do it? Yes. Do I want to? No, but I can and would if needed. No one would know about it either.

They could get their electricity from solar power...thus they would be "off the grid."

I always have this vision in my mind that I'm some pioneer type...then the power goes out and after the string of unrepeatable words, I realize what a complete wimp I am and the reality is, I like my creature comforts.
Then the power comes back on and I think I'm self sufficient again....Aaannnd the cycle repeats.
It's the lies I tell myself that are the most delusional....
I do try to support local farmers though..mucho respect for them...

Well, someone who has electricity, the internet and a computer certainly is not living off the grid. That reminds me of women who say they are vegetrarians but they eat eggs and sometimes fish. Anyway, I would not in a million years want to live without all the modern comforts and conveniences. Just thinking about it makes sick. I don't even know why anyone would want to do it but, to each his own.

I have no desire to rough it off the grid. I used to spend vacations at grandparents rustic cabin in Colorado mountains. No electricity, kerosene lanterns, wood stove for heat and cooking, carry water from a spring, use outhouse, ice box outside. That was enough of that for me.

I wouldn't last five minutes out in the woods (or desert)..........

I devoured the Little House on the Prairie books and thought being a pioneer woman would be great. Now, not so much.
