@Stray  You made an excellent point about Christian the Lion; thanks for bringing that up - I'd forgotten all about it.

I think we don't give most animals enough credit, not just lions.  The more I've talked to and included my dogs in my life, the more they respond and the more intelligent they seem to be. Most animals really communicate with us, if we do so with them.

The more time invested with an animal, the more it pays off (for us!) and the more interplay there is.  Cecil was trusting of humans (his error) because of a history of relationships with them.  It's too bad in the end he suffered  (literally) for that.

I was with my most recent dog (now deceased) pretty much 24/7 for the last 2/3 of his lifetime, and he really amazed me - - all the things he was competent to learn and the body language he used to communicate with me.  It was because of all the inter-relating we did during that time.  I'm not saying all animals are on a leval with dogs, who are very intelligent and domesticated,  but Christian is a good example of even time spent with a wild animal can astound us about what they are capable of doing.

@Pearlee - you are right about animals.  My friend has 2 terminally ill children and they have a therapy dog.  What an animal, such sensitivity and he has given the children love of course but such a degree of independence.  My own cat, now deceased, was very sensitive; when my MIL was sick and dying, she didn't leave my husband's side; she would pat him with her paw gently.  I only spent a month in Africa but Botswana was a special Country and the people very spiritual. i definitely sensed an understanding between the lions and the Rangers on the reserve; the lions were just beautiful to look at and the interaction fascinating.

People should stay away from animal habitat and watch it on HDTV.

overall it all sounds like that show Zoo.

Hey @Kachina624 how's it going?
There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.

Good Bernie.  Has it cooled off any in Michigan?  I'm looking forward to some autumn leaves.

I think I'd be more fearful of meeting an agitated elephant.  They could make a jeep and its occupants look like a flattened tin can and they're fast too.

@Kachina624

t-ha!

and what about bears and alligators?  They climb, they run, they swim, they're fast, and black mambas too!
