Re: Limiting bathroom breaks....

In general, when I was in a large typing pool for a huge national company (a hundred years ago), during Summer vacations, we weren't allowed to have coffee or any liquids/foods at our desks.........so most of us didn't need to use the restroom very often, as I recall. But that has nothing to do with this thread.........it just brought back memories of that typing pool, (typewriters, carbon copies, typewriter pencil eraser with brush on the end, etc.), which I wasn't crazy about in those days, but I needed the money for the rest of the year.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Some places now have people put their cell phones in a locker before they clock in.

Now THAT is a great idea !!!

Re: Limiting bathroom breaks....

Where I work hourly people are given two 15 minute breaks a thirty minute lunch break which is all paid time for them. Hourly start work at 7:00 am......1st break is at 9:00 am......lunch is at 11:30 am.......2nd break is at 2:00 pm, so the breaks and lunch are spaced out. We don't deny them bathroom breaks at other times but we do discourage because we work as assembly teams and when someone is missing it slows down production and often causes mistakes. Over the years there have been several that we have had to ask to obtain a doctor's note. Now we have the cell phone issue too. One guy actually was taking his cell phone into the men's room so that he could make calls.....no one wants to deny people restroom rights but there are some who are abusing the situation for everyone. During college I worked at the IRS as a tax examiner at tax season. I was hourly and we were not allowed to go to the restroom except for breaks & lunch. If you had an emergency you had to raise your hand and the supervisor would motion for you to come to his desk. You then had to ask......it felt like you were back in grade school. Times have changed.......

I agree, tansy. For those who never had children, they just don't get it. Plus, it's not healthy to hold it. I drink a lot of water throughout the day and I certainly go a lot to keep it moving through my system.

When I was pregnant, I used to know where every bathroom was in the shopping mall in our area.
