I have done the other "check your" services and they are confusing to me. Was hoping lifelock would be easier.
oops - should have realized it's LifeLock, not LocknLock.
too funny!

I've been thinking about it too, but am not sold on the program. I looked it up on the internet and am receiving daily emails from them - such a pain!!

Three weeks ago his wallet was stolen with his credit cards, debit card and SS card in it. He immediately called LifeLock and they said they always check for suspicious activity -but - if he wanted extra surveillance now - it would cost him more money. They told him to call one of the credit bureaus to put a freeze on, so no one could get a mortgage, etc. As for his Social Security number being out there, they gave him a number to contact Social Security administration for further help. So basically they didn't do much for him, just told him who he should contact and gave him some phone numbers. I think they should have done more once his personal information had been compromised.
I understand they have up to a million dollar reimbursement if you are out any money due to identity theft, even with their basic plan.
focksie: Yes, they do but as twinsister pointed out her brother had to do all the footwork anyway to straighten things out. These are things we would do with or without Life Lock. I think it would be very hard to prove that you had identity theft because Life Lock messed up.
Not sure they are worth the money, since many banks/cc companies offer alerts now anyway.
I guess if it makes one feel more secure, that's fine.
I copied this from their website. It doesn't sound like they claim to do all the footwork for you, although I can see where it could be misconstrued that they do that. I read it as they just identify a problem when it happens and alert you, then reimburse for any damages. I'm considering LifeLock because I called my bank the other day and was miffed they didn't ask me all the necessary security questions.

Well, that was what I was hoping for...an email to let me know someone was taking out a loan using my ss? My local bank would know better but in another city?

My concern isn't so much my credit cards because they don't make you pay for fraud. I'm more concerned about someone using my ss to open up OTHER credit cards and bank loans etc?

I have had LL for two years now and only keep because of fear that once I cancel something will happen.
In the last two years, I have opened about five new accounts, for TV, Rugs, Teeth, Vacume, plumbing, Washer and Dryer. They never once contacted me. When I questioned this, they said, those companies are not in our system, some companies don't use us. I said, these are six different companies with six different credit agencies, who does use you and what good are you to me? They do not give you a credit report unless you have their top of the line cost. I have basic. Discover card gives me my FICO. I think all Lifelock does is the million dollars, but I'm sure at the time ,if it came, they would find a loophole. I have two weeks to decide if I am going to keep it. CC cards, you are protected, lose wallet, call police and cancel cards. I only carry one CC with me when I go out, because I lost my wallet once and couldn't remember the CC cards that were in it. So only one at a time and I take it out of my wallet when I get home. I check all my statements online everyday. I really don't think they help.

We have protection through our banks system, not lifelock, but similar. They send us reports monthly and call us if anything looks abnormal.
Our bank offers us this as a service for free. We provided them will all of our cc numbers and different bank account numbers and they keep tabs on it for us.
Sure we could do it ourselves, but I couldn't spend the time to do it.
