focksie: Yes, they do but as twinsister pointed out her brother had to do all the footwork anyway to straighten things out. These are things we would do with or without Life Lock. I think it would be very hard to prove that you had identity theft because Life Lock messed up.
Not sure they are worth the money, since many banks/cc companies offer alerts now anyway.
I guess if it makes one feel more secure, that's fine.

I copied this from their website. It doesn't sound like they claim to do all the footwork for you, although I can see where it could be misconstrued that they do that. I read it as they just identify a problem when it happens and alert you, then reimburse for any damages. I'm considering LifeLock because I called my bank the other day and was miffed they didn't ask me all the necessary security questions.

focksie: Interesting but if I lost my wallet I'd be on the phone in a flash to contact cc and banks. Now there may be poor customer service at some banks, so Life Lock might be helpful. But I don't see having to use them to cancel your own cc, for example.
I guess it's good for those who don't know how to handle things on their own?
I did lose a cc once, called immediately, verified my last purchase, and had a new card/number in days.

Cakers, I think their service is not so much for when you know you've lost your wallet, but more for identifying a thief when you aren't aware of your identity being stolen or your personal info compromised. I was a victim of identity theft many years ago. I was totally unaware that someone had used my SSN to purchase a home clear across the country until I got a call from the FBI! I think LifeLock would be exactly the service for a situation like that.

focksie: That's horrible!!! We recently had a man put in jail because somebody stole his identity, warrants were out for other crimes, and the poor man spent a few day in jail until it was cleared up.
He now has a letter from the Sheriff's dept. he carries saying he's not that same guy!
I hope it didn't take long for your situation to get resolved. What a nightmare!

cakers - that is exactly what we did - first he called the police and then we made calls to his cc and banks. Life Lock told us to make those calls and we told them we already had done that.I have been considering Life Lock, but after seeing what he had to do, I'm not sure if it is worth it.
His wallet was found the next day in a trash can in front of someone's house. This man noticed it and returned it to my boyfriend's job. Everything was there but the cash, so it was just someone looking for cash and nothing more thankfully.

twinsister: Thank goodness. We have alerts on our accounts, so I don't think Life Lock would matter one bit. Especially today - maybe years ago when we didn't have so many ways now to be notified Life Lock would be good to at least notify you.
