I'll be decorating my house for Christmas!  Yay!  Smiley Happy  I know some of you will moan and groan about this post, but I absolutely love Christmas decorations and having them up through Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.  They are so cheerful and bright and happy.

Then after Thanksgiving it will be time for my students to help me put up our classroom Christmas tree and make some ornaments for it.  Some of the best memories are made in these last few months of the year.

If I put up Chrismas decor in mid November, I'd be taking it all down and storing on December 26.  I just get tired of it and the clutter.  Do you leave yours up for some time after Christmas?

It depends.  Sometimes I'm tired of it and want my house to be back to "normal" and sometimes I keep it up until New Years Day.

Years ago, before the advent of artificial trees, people used to put up the tree, a day or 2 before Christmas, and keep it up until Epiphany

  • Thanksgiving is a major event where I live, an American holiday  that is not  just the start of the Christmas season.    No one in this area decortates for Christmas before Thanksgiving.  Well, there is one family that puts there Christmas decorations up Halloween night.  So glad I don't live next door to them!  But it is amazing.  On Halloween, they are all decked out for that and the very next day...bam....it's Christmas.  You drive by their house at 6am and all their Christmas stuff is out.  And they do a lot!  The must do it in the wee hours. They've been doing that for many years and everyone in the area is so happy that they didn't start some type of trend.   I just put up my fall decorations and that will remain up right through Thanksgiving, which is a fall holiday.  I love my fall decorations.  This year,  we plan to decorate for Christmas the weekend after Turkey Day.  We often have friends or family drop in the day after TG,  so I'll want my  fall stuff up.  But Saturday, it comes down and the Christmas stuff goes up.  I'm  not sure what my theme and colors will be for Christmas this year.  I went with red/gold/ivory  last Christmas and the one before.   So, I'm thinking green/gold/ivory this year.  I love Christmas too, it's my favorite time of the year.  But I don't rush it,  I like to enjoy  each holiday as it comes.

We always leave our tree and decorations up through Jan 6th.  Which is when the Chistmas season actually ends.

Early November seems early for X Mas decorating.

I enjoy my Harvest decor. It's probably my favorite.  I leave it up until the day after Thanksgiving.
