Re: Laughing after Everything You Say

[ Edited ]

There is one designer on the Q that does that constant laughing.....when what he is laughing at is really not funny at all.  Think that is a nervous condition......  But, it does get on my nerves, so I put him on mute when he is on there.

PS.....thanks for the opportunity to say this (vent).  Have so long wanted to say something about this.

I work with someone who laughs after pretty much everything she says.  As though everything that comes out of her mouth is oh.so.clever.  After being around her for any length of time I just want to say "STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT".

lol

I figure if something is funny then the person listening would do the laughing, not the person uttering the assumed funny.

Hi @QueenDanceALot,

I did know someone who did this.

I think that it was more of a nervous habit for them, and I don't even know if they necessarily realized that they did it, although people that were around them long enough had noticed it.

Re: Laughing after Everything You Say

My Former SIL used to do that in WRITING!  After EVERY sentence, she would write, "lol."  It became a running joke with my husband and the rest of the family, every time we would refer to her we would say for instance, "Mary is coming to the BBQ - lol!"

Some people are just smilers.  Pres Carter was like that. He almost always wore a smile,no matter what

I think its a nervous habit, for some people

Re: Laughing after Everything You Say

Yes, I agree it is a nervous habit.

In the past I had a dear friend who did this.

And currently, I have a friend who also is guilty of the same.

When we are having coffee, I look like a genuine sour-puss,

while the whole time she talks she punctuates her sentences

with laughter.

Overall, she is a great person and has had

a lot of difficulty in her life.  I sometimes think that

her laughter is both nervous and a coping mechanism to try

to make something otherwise not so funny....funny.

But, yes, it is annoying.  I would never say anything to her,

but I don't chime in with laughter.

I know someone like that, too. I am pretty sure its a nervous habit. I don't think they can always help it.

Years ago I worked with two gigglers.  They giggled everytime anyone said anything.  I made the mistake of going off with them in a group one night and thought I would lose my mind with the constant giggling.

It could be she has a neuro disorder called Pseudobulbar. It's when a person laughs or cries and can't help it.

That's different. There are just some people who give a little giggle after everything they say. I know someone like that. It is just a nervous habit. I know someone else who has to clear her throat after everything she says...another nervous habit.
