I adore the President!!! I worked on his campaigns. I know it's all in fun, but I was tired of seeing this woman mugging the cameras when there were other more interesting people to focus on. It wasn't her smile, but her ego!
I'm so glad to see you have good things to say about our POTUS.
Oh my.
You need to remember that there are many who are not so enamored.

Welcome to reality...I can adapt and appreciate SOME of the changes and advances in society today. To each their own. I am 40, but like that things are a button away. I miss going into the local mall and being able to hit the arcades while my parents shopped. Cedar Point, is virtually nothing like it used to be. Some, good things like better deals and a better food option. I worked there for years, and once Kinzel left, you could see a difference in management styles for the better. However, unless you REALLY like coasters, you are better seeking other options. BTW, the ride operators don't wear the sunglasses because the sun is in their eyes....2 words: Louie's and 2am last call, which about time they got home, was 3 and the park opens at 9...lol...My point is, we are better off than our grandparents. However, doesn't mean you have to give up your guilty pleasures like music or classic tv just because we are in a potically correct society, whether you agree or not. Again to each their own.![]()

@fuzzball76
Are you on the correct thread, or did I really miss something?

People seem to forget that there are a gaggle of photographers madly snapping photos of whomever walked in the door. What people then saw was what was picked up by the television cameras.
This is an event that attendees really look forward to, and people write big checks for the scholarship fund. Let them have their fun! No need to get self-righteous and snarky about a journalists' dinner!

Oh goody, I have been waiting for you to tell us when we can and cannot get self righteous and snarky!
Well, then, glad I could help out.

Oh, what a great post. I couldn't agree more. The two mentioned are especially sickening.

I think it's because Americans, by and large, are obsessed with celebrity. Who cares about another politician, even if it's Gabby -- let's go gaga over Hollywood royalty.
If you talk to people, you'll find that the vast majority don't care about celebrities. They don't follow them via apps, mags or tv shows, and the most you'll get is name recognition. The marketing may be in our faces, but it only fuels those that do care.

More people want to see Jada than want to see Gabby, it's as simple as that. Both are has beens. I haven't any interest in either but, if I had to choose, I would have to go with Jada. I dislike Gabby and her tiresome husband.

Then I saw Will Smith and Jada Smith walk in. Jada was just gushing for the camera as if she was the biggest celebrity in the world. It was sickening to watch.
What bothered me more was the press were taking her picture like she was a goddess, but right behind her stood Gabby Giffords just leaning against the wall watching her, totally unnoticed by the press. Maybe I missed Gabby's entrance (and I'm sure she didn't mug the camera), but the irony of watching Jada stand there as if she was so important and Gabby off to the side just watching her politely. I can only imagine what Gabby was thinking watching this woman strut for the camera.
Sorry, just needed to vent that. Why does this event always turn into a celebrity fest? We never even know the names of the quality press reporters that are there. They are overshadowed by Candace Cameron and Kendall Jenner. Jenner was called out by the President, and I'm sure she'll "tweet" that for days. Yet, she probably couldn't name one person sitting on that dais last night.
I was glimpsing at the videos online the next day, and it seemed to have turned into a red carpet event. Why are all these stars there? I suppose they have given money to the President's party...or paid big money to attend.
It is sad that someone like Gabby goes unnoticed by the press. It seems to me that this event should be by invitation only to the correspondents and then to people who have done outstanding things to change the United States.

what in the world do you find tiresome about Gabby Giffords and her husband?
Gabby faced nearly insurmountable odds in recovering from the gunshot wound to her head and is now very active in a cause that is important. I consider her a hero.
