LOL can actually mean funny ha ha or something sarcastic, you should be able to tell from the tone of what's written.

I always was told LOL , laughing out loud.

for me when someone posts something that your not sure how to take it.  I am of the thinking they are writing tongue in cheek kind of reply (as the saying goes).

I just let it go

@Deree  That I would have taken as sarcasm! Still think is might be. Now I have no clue. Would love to put LOL, but don't want to laugh about something if it's not funny to you so I won't. Thanks for your response. 

ETA: Hope the emoji is not offensive. I use them often on these boards. Not sure if I ever use LOL on here.

I don't believe it is used in a sacastic way, but rather to soften the blow of appearing oppositional.

I know it means laughing out loud but sometimes I will use it at the end of what I am saying to mean "just kidding".

I always took it to mean the context was meant to be funny, lighthearted. Is there another meaning besides "laughing out loud"?
